Thread: Blanket weed

    Blanket weed

Hi I'm new here so not sure how this works yet.

I'm having problems with blanket weed. I have the usual cloverleaf blanket answer. I've used it for the last 2 years fine no problems, but never had blanket weed this time of year I thought it was to cold. I have realised I haven't got the all seasons sort. Could I use the normal one as my pond isn't heated? My water temps are fluctuating between 3° and 6° at the moment.
I'm so ready for spring winter can do one.

Ive copy and pasted this reply from a similar thread :-

I`ve found over the years that Blanket Weed can strike at any time of year - even in the depths of winter , so you have to be vigilant . The science says that it needs a combination of light and nutrients to thrive .
What I`ve found is that if you catch it early a treatment or two with the AS resolve will kill it . BUT , as it dies off I get a build up of black crud on the walls and floor which needs vaccing off and makes a right mess . Whether the presence of the crud then perpetuates a fresh cycle of BW , I`m not sure - but I wouldn`t be surprised if it contributes !

However - last year I had a breakthrough ! . After I got rid of the BW , early last year , I starting using a sludge buster product , which got rid of the crud . I`ve continued using this on a little and often basis and now the walls are completely clear . I`ll be keeping a close eye on it , as spring approaches , but as yet - nothing !

I've been having success with AS Resolve, which sludge product have you been using?
