Hi all I’m new
Hello everyone. I’m Rob , I’m a self employed heating engineer from Cheshire. I’ve been keeping fish for around 15 years but only recently built a small pond. I’m now in the process of building a larger pond and I’d love to get some help and advice from you all. I was a member on another pond forum but it seems to be nobody around there these days haha
My pond has mostly shubunkins but I’m hoping with the new pond I can get a couple of koi at least.
Thanks everyone
Rob

Hi
So the pond I have now is a puddle compared to what most of you would have on here. As we have a relatively small garden and I’d always wanted a pond I built a raised timber frame pond with window around 4 years ago.
We are now going to re do the entire garden which means I’m thinking of moving the pond to a new location and may possibly buy a fibreglass raised pond with window. I’ve seen some online ( jungle pets in Buxton ) I believe I’ve seen some on there. Now as I say as my garden is relatively small ( and the fact my Mrs will kill me ) I’m going to have to stay small ish. Maybe 2000 - 2500 litres. My old pond is around 1000 litres . As small as it is though it was brilliant to get into ponds as I’ve only ever had indoor aquariums.
This old pond has 9 shubunkins and I have a blagdon iq pump feeding a box filter with sponges and grog and also a shower filter. Ott for a small pond but It gives me something to do haha I will switch over to tapatalk and upload pictures.
With the new garden I’ll be getting a larger shed so I’m hoping to once again keep the filtration in there and I’m looking into what filtration I can use on a 2000 2500 litre pond. Hence why I’m here. I shall post some questions in the relevant section soon. Be good to get some advice

A lot of koi people will tell you a min of 1000 GAL for koi .
My fry tank is 1000lt so at a little over 2 of them is still very small for koi that avg 55 60cm .
One way to keep a small foot print would be to step away from pre made and get some sleepers with a box weld liner then you could go down to say 5 ft deep

Growing up my dad had a large pond with plenty of koi. I wish we had the space but unfortunately we haven’t. I’d still like a 2000 or 2500 litre but maybe we will have to avoid the koi. Save that for the next house move haha.
