Hello all, looking for some advice

    Hello all.

Hope you're all well, a newbie here,

Like a lot of people I set up a small pond during lockdown. Lol. A raised pond about 900L,

    And im hooked!

We're now looking at setting up a much larger pond, in ground, trying to figure out whats best.

The filtration im going to be running is 3 pressurised filters
    2 x bioforce revolution 14000
    1 x bioforce revolution 9000

The question i was wanting to as was, is it possible to run a bottom drain to a pressurised filter?
And if so do you still need to run a pump on it?

    Many thanks kris

    Hi!
Pressure filters are really unfit for purpose on a koi pond of any size- koi poo so much you need better mechanical filtration that takes it out of the water rather than blocking up foams with it.

What kind of size pond are you considering?

Hi @kriswitt. Welcome to the forum Hello all, looking for some advice

When I bought my current home on 2011 it came with a hole in the ground pond of about 4,500L. The previous owners had taken out all the filtration equipment and left us with just the ugly and sick goldfish that they didn't want! And so began a steep learning curve as I'd only ever had aquariums before. But like you, I was soon bitten by the bug, and when I rehomed my brothers fish in my pond after he moved house, along came some koi and I finally understood what it is about koi that makes them so different to all other pond fish ... apart the tremendous amount of waste they produce Hello all, looking for some advice

In 2017 I had my pond rebuilt raised with windows and over twice the volume (11,500L). I rehomed all my non-koi fish to a managed lake on a university campus where my brother gets to see them still as he works there, and achieved my dream of koi only.

Along the way I've had a range of filters as my stock and knowledge grew starting with an all-in-one drop in Hozelock EasyClear 9000 (which worked remarkably well and went on to be my quarrantine filter in times of emergency!), then an Oase Pressure filter that came from my bros pond with his fish (made water much clearer but what a pain to clean), then a Nexus 220 with Draco Drum drop in (when I had my rebuild done). This year I changed that to an Oase Proficlear Compact M for ease of maintenance and think I've finally found the sweet spot for both me and my pond.

So, from that experience my first reaction to your THREE pressure filters was one of horror at the thought of the maintenance they'll require (as they'll need stripping and hand washing up to once a week during summer, less in winter but what a horrid job that is in the freezing cold!). Hello all, looking for some advice

As Feline said, they are far from ideal on a koi pond esp if you want to go bigger.

I recently did a 'wish list' for another thread that you may want to take a look at for a bit more detail from myself and others:

Hope you find something interesting there, and come back to your thread with any other questions you may have.
