Hello all, I'm new to this site and having a look round.
I've had koi and other fish for 30 years or so. My 6 largest, of my total of 13, are all over 24". My three eldest fish are approaching 30 years of age.
I keep them in a pitifully small amount of water, around 1200 gallons and water quality is a constant worry. I do, however, manage to keep reasonably clear water and have had very few health problems.
I have an EA fully automatic filter which works very well.
I am moving house, hopefully this summer or autumn if CV allows, and will be building a new pond of around 3000 gallons and may reduce the number of fish.
I want to build a three level pond so that I can incorporate plant filtration as well.
I'm fortunate enough to be able to buy and build before actually moving in to the new property but a number of issues have already been identified such as:
Pond liner or paint?
How do I transport a number of large fish?
Bottom drain or not?
Concrete, brick or block?
Rendered or not?
Full sun or shade?
I have the necessary skills to do the work myself which will keeps the cost down.
I'm sure I'll be able to get a lot of information and advice on this site and I'm looking forward to the project when CV lets us out again.
In between then and now I'll be reading as much as I can and planning.
Ian
