Why do you want to add salt? It has its uses, but should only be deployed when it’s the recommended treatment for a diagnosed problem. So, unless that’s your situation, by all means buy a bag to have on hand but leave the salt in the bag till it’s needed!

second that mate if its healing why salt . Salt is extremely hard to got out of a pond . If you need to treat for some thing that has been found on a scrap . Salt could render said treat useless . Imo I would only ever salt bath/qt . But what signs is the fish showing of needing treatment?? Eating sulking clamping??

Well Iíve researched the anti bacterial & health benefits & positive impact when adding new fish etc.... from some of the biggest Japanese experts in the industry plus there only seems to be a small downside.... but thatís why Iím suggesting doing it on this thread to get more advice and opinions from those in the know

Myself I would only put salt in for nitrite. If to high.
If one of my fish needed salt. It would be a salt bath. Or salt the qt with heat. For treatment. Or stress. Salting the pond would be my last resort. As said by other posters. Takes a long time to get out the pond. And if you have to treat for parasites. A lot of treatments don t go hand in glove with salt.

The fish with the injury (probably in transit courier) is healing fast with treating with API Melafix, a big shout out to Love Aquatics whom supplied the fish, customer service was top notch by way of resolution for my costs.

I get why you want to salt, and is something I did when I had a few new fish with a few transport injuries.

But if you add it and then find out the fish have parasites (which at the moment it seems like everything has an infestation of one thing or another) you might then be restricted which treatments you can add.

I'd say not to bother as the water is still warm so shpuld heal fine and your topical treatment will probably be enough anyway.

I bet you got a buzz when you were finally able to fill the pond up. Hope the NPS isn't too much of an issue for you.

Love Aquatics I have had about 50 fish from them. 2 are in my grow on right now.
And there service is brilliant. The last 3 years I have bought 4 inch grow ons off them.
    And never had a problem.

Like puberty we all gotta go through it one way or another... and yes great buzz the fish come to the window all the time & with the positioning of the pond, the sun comes up arcs round from left to right totally back lighting the fish so lucky!
