    Hi

Hi. Had a small raised pond with 7 Goldfish for a few years which was looking tired. I decided to replace and upgrade. Along the way I became very interested in Koi. Too interested considering I only have 600 gallons and 2.5 feet. The Goldfish are loving it. Iím designing Ďpond 2í in another part of the garden having got my wife past the shock.

    Hello and welcome.
Build your pond bigger than you want as you'll only want to build it bigger later anyway.

Double the size, triple the worry and quadruple the budget but worth it in the end

Look forward to the pond build updates

look forward to seeing your new plans and build, we like lots of photo's very friendly site with lots of advice available, have a good read through the construction section as plenty of us have been through the pain and shared our build as it progressed, as said above need to be 2000 gallons plus really for koi with some decent filtration via a bottom drain...cheers Steve.

Hi thanks for the replyís. Iím reading through the construction part of the site. I realise now even my plans for pond 2 arenít ambitious enough. Iíll be expanding my mind over the coming weeks. And pond 2 size. Itís a more technical hobby than I expected so Iíll spend enough time absorbing information before I start pond 2.

Iím pretty lucky that I was always in 2 minds as to which one of two locations to choose. The area I didnít go for will open itself up to about 2000 gallons which means I can keep my goldfish pond as it is. I have considered putting 3 or 4 Ghost Koi in whilst Iím working on pond 2 project? That would put me at 10 fish. The Goldfish are all less than 7 inches. Iíve got what I would think is an informed amateur setup in terms of filtration and air. Not what I would plan now but I didnít know bottom drains or gravity fed systems until a couple of months ago so Iím getting there for planning. Yesterday I learnt about Microscopes on this site. 2 days ago I didnít know about scraping etc....all very interesting

The pond build is the easy bit mate.
Keeping the koi fish and water chemistry
Is the hard bit. Especially at the start with new pond syndrome.
Read a lot on manky sanke site. For all the water chemistry side of things.
