Newbie
Hello my name is Marc I have posted in another section didnt realise this was where we introduced ourselves.
I have had Koi for twenty years basically started with a small pond for the kids then the koi grew as have my kids and three ponds on I still have most of those Koi that are now over 23 years old. I recently decided to upgrade my pond for the last time it is 6ft deep 4 meters long and 3 meters wide fiberglassed with a 2 meter by 800mm window.
I have upgraded my filtration with a Filtreu 20 drum and bio bed the pond has bottom drain with a spin drifter everything has now been running about five months I had some water issues to start basically high Nitrite but I have solved this via water changes as I knew the system was stabilising and most likely still is.
As the pond was all nice and sparkly I got a bit excited and over the last month or so I have added some new koi one of which is a Jumbo Kohaku. I am probably overstocked in reality I want some advice on how to deal with the problem I don't want to get rid of any fish as I like them all they all have history especially the old ones. I get a build up of waste in the bottom of the pond they must all crap in the morning I can see it slowly creeping towards the bottom drain but it does take some time normally by mid day it has gone but lots of small bits are floating around.
Looking in from the pond above you cant see it but through the window you can and it does not look great.
Could a Bakki shower help with this or do I need a stronger pump I am currently running an Oase 12000 Premium eco I don't have a skimmer and don't really want one plus my surface water is fine any suggestions would be great.
apologies for the long story in advance.
Many thanks for all your help

If it's moving in the right direction (towards the drain) could the drain handle more volume?
I asked the question how often should your pond cycle and the consensus was around two full cycles per hour ish.
Calculations based on your measurements and pump suggest yours is taking just over two hours for a full cycle.
If your drain can handle more I'd upgrade.
Hi and welcome btw.

Sounds like it would help.
My puddle is nowhere near the scale of yours or the folks on here but it cycles around 2.5 times per hour.
After all its not possible to have too much filtration.

do you mean a 30000 pump. that's a good start. I believe you need more circulation with your water. it needs to move more. to get the crap to your drain. drains only suck a foot or two from the drain its self.
your pond sounds like a good setup.
also a skimmer is very good at getting crap away. my pond is 6 feet deep. I did it round instead of square. to help with the circulation. with 2xpond returns about a foot of the bottom.
see how it goes with the larger pump on the drain. how about some photo s of your pond and fish. we love photo s.
especially me enjoy the pond mate.

I have installed the new pump yesterday on the pond and straight away noticed more crap floating about I thought maybe its what has collected in the blade and has now been pushed threw. I was hoping to come out to a clearer pond this morning but its the same or even worse. I wonder do I need more media in my bio bed it came with 75L of OASE Hel-x moving media. Do you think this might be the problem is the muck not being caught and its washing straight past the chamber. I have added a video to show the water

Hi Freddyboy the bio chamber is moving bed with 75 ltr of OASE HEL X. I contacted the filtreu supplier about 30 mins ago they said the media should be enough and is not there to catch the crap the drum is. she mentined about japp matt of the clear pond to clump bits together which I have ordered were does the japp matt fit in my system I have not used it before

I have a spindrifter that is moving a lot of the muck about so I have clamped the air to reduce it to try let the much settle to the bottom and hopefully go down the bottom drain

Update The pond has now cleared up much better so hopefully the pump has sorted it. I have also wound back the amount of air going through my spindrifter and the fish seem a little happier do any of you do this.

You need to put the jap Matt at exit point
Of your bio. Or entry point but exit would be better. Example. If I used jap mat. It would go in the exit of my nexus lol. After the drum. Fine still get passed the drum if smaller then the mesh size.
