Pop up adverts driving me mad
I’ve always really enjoyed this forum. BUT recently I’m finding the constant pop up adverts really annoying. They detract from my enjoyment and certainly reduce the frequency I use the forum.
banners and side adverts are fine but this is too intrusive for me.

There are no pop-up ads for me, none at all. This is when on chrome browser, windows PC.
On tapatalk there are loads, and you have to wait 5 seconds or so for the X to appear so you can close it. I find that really annoying. Thing is, I don't even look at the ads so no idea what they are for, I'm just focussed on the top corner of the screen waiting for the X to appear.

Hi, Sorry about that. Google adsense applied a revenue optimisation experiment, I just told them to stuff it. It should be off now or within an hour or so. Thanks.

I just clicked on the three dots (top left in the pop up) and got into Google as services. Scrolled down to "yourAdChoices" and "opt out of all". We'll see if that makes a difference to the pop ups.

Now I'm having issues with loads of pop-up adverts that appear each time I click something on the site. Never had this previously in the years I've been a member.
In Chrome (desktop PC) I have blocked this site from using pop-up ads, but they still keep coming, plus also intrusive ones that rise up from the bottom of the screen.
This only started a few weeks ago around the same time as I deleted internet history, cookies and cache which I do from time to time. Not sure if doing that has triggered anything, but my ad preferences in chrome are definitely set to stop pop-ups.
Only this site is affected, don't get them anywhere else, and there's no Malware on my machine. All the ads including the popups are "Ads by Google" so not coming from a malicious third party.
Any ideas?

My solution has been to avoid coming on here, because I find it too annoying. In fact I’ve only come on here to reply to the notification I got from your post.

I get the same, I use chrome browser on my Google phone. It has become second nature to scroll up and close the ad every time i load a screen.

The problem for me with that solution:
- I get cashback and discounts from various purchases by accessing through affiliated links. Ad blockers prevent this from working.
- I am more than happy to support my favourite websites through their ads, and sometimes I click those ads solely to support revenue for the site.
Since the intrusive popups started I no longer click any ads on this site so they are losing out. Unless the issue is fixed I shall try to figure out a solution that applies to this site only. These days no responsible wesbite or forum uses pop-up ads, it is well documented that the long term effects are net negative.
The confusing part is that this only started after I deleted cookies / history from my browser, so maybe there's a way to reverse those effects, but I've not figured it out yet.
