Gravity Filter return below water line

Hi, I currently have a pond pump feeding a gravity filter that's about 1m above the pond, the filtered water returns back into the pond via a 2" pipe.
The issue is that the pond is very close to one of our bedrooms and the water noise of the filtered water returning is an issue.
If I submerged this outlet pipe below the surface line would the filtered water still return correctly or would I have an air lock issue?

If the pipe is vertical (ish) or is a smooth run downward with no ups and downs, there would be no problem. The only disadvantage would be that the return water won't cause extra aeration due to splashing on the surface and dragging bubbles of air down into the water but, if you have sufficient aeration already, that loss of aeration wouldn't be significant.

It will be coming out of the bottom of the bottom of the filter on the side, running about 6" horizontal before dropping vertically into the pond. I have plenty of other aeration.

That seems OK but, if possible, you could make the horizontal bit slope slightly down towards the pond by about 1 cm to make sure that you won't get sudden surges of water that create a gurgling noise in the pipe.

Cheers bud, tbf I've got some alterations to make anyway so might actually make the horizontal a bit longer and create a fall anyway.
