I am just about to buy a Chinese monitor.
A ph-900 on eBay. £24 is about the cheapest you can get one with a UK plug.
    It calibrates at 7.
Others calibrate both at 7 and 4. The "6 in 1" monitors which WiFi results to an app you can get for around £58. Beats the hell out of the blue lab guardian, in price, but I haven't found anyone who's used the Chinese ones?

    quality isn't cheap,
i like the pin point probes, used in marine fish keeping. they last about 2 years and have very little drift,
only needing occasional calibration and accurate to two decimal places 0.00

i got my last ones on Amazon from the U.S. but they are not on there atm...

That tekcoplus one is certainly another generic Chinese one, I've seen it with loads of different names. Tekcoplus, Danplus etc

Literally everything is made in china. I've seen some very 'high end' products that are made in China under license. Many have a generic equivalent, made in china, outside of those license agreements, with unbranded versions sold under various names (or no brand name). They have been produced in the same factory, but outside of the branded license. This is common place. The trick is, figuring out what is good and what is tut.

You can certainly buy the same quality for much less money.
I'm sure that the important bits of a blue lab guardian are in a different, cheaper, plastic body on eBay right now for less than £100. It's just a case of figuring out what works. Anything with a BNC probe is a good start.

A quick Google of the pinpoint probe and it looks like it can be found branded as American marine, HM digital and Hydros also, so that's almost certainly made under license, which would most likely be in China and imported also, if I had to guess. I like the look of it though. Looks robust.

The Weipro Chinese PH controller (£75) is sold in the states, rebranded for £285 iirc. It potentially could be the same components as the blue lab controller (not monitor).

But I don't really want a controller, just a monitor, but that's probably what I'll buy (because it has a WiFi connection and an app), if I don't find a dirt cheap monitor.

...so which cheap generic Chinese PH monitor is going to be the same as aqua medic, ehiem, blue lab etc, but with a zero off the price....

One of the monitors I was watching on eBay offered me a deal for £17.53 delivered so I went for it. This is the one. I'll let you know if it's any good. No wifi connection for an app or anything but for the money it's definitely worth dipping my toe in the water and seeing if it's any good. It has an auto temperature adjustment, calibration to 7ph fluid and a BNC probe that could swap out for a better quality probe if necessary.

The same one with a UK plug was £24 but it's a weird upside down plug, that won't fit in my outdoor plug sockets (when the water proof cover is down) so I went for the cheaper 2pin plug and I'll figure out an appropriate replacement from my draw of shite in the garage. Basically all the leads and plugs from dead tech items I've hoarded.

yep looked again at what ive bought its a two pin ive defo got adaptors but if it makes it awkward for the price paid i'll cut plug off and try again.
change of mind while typing that's a big plug must have some sort of circuit board / controller in it.

Yeah it'll be some sort of AC / DC converter plug probably at 12v 1A is common or anything really, 5v 2A? Whatever it says on the plug you can order a UK replacement for about £3.50- £4, unless you have an exact match lying about the house.

...I've just zoomed in on some photos of the UK plus ones on eBay. Looks like DC 6v 1A but I'll email them to confirm...
