    Bakki shower - my experience

I have decided to share some of my experience with this filter type, maybe this will be helpful to someone considering one.

    Model I have is DVS TF 200 - https://www.dvs-filtertechniek.com/engels/tf200.html

    Updates over the original design:
    - one extra tray
    - custom drip tray
    - 2x 50 inlets

Bakki is powered by 2x JEBAO 20m3/h pumps (running on 100%), so I think total turnover per hour is around 30 m3. Water is taken directly from the the drum.

Media I have used there is 120 kg of DVS in house media. In my opinion and checks over the internet, the media is exactly the same as CSM. 120 kg fits perfectly in 5 trays.

Now about some water tests before and after the bakki. I have used a photometer here.

    WATER IN:
    - NO3 - 47,12 (3 samples average)
    - NO2 - 0,09
    - AMMONIA - low

    WATER OUT:
    - NO3 - 43,2 (3 samples average)
    - NO2 - 0,05
    - AMMONIA - low

I bought it mostly for lowering NO3. It does something, but not much in this regard. Maybe different media, Momotaro BHM? Next year maybe I will change them and make a final comparison here with another tests. It would be cool to see the BHM vs CSM.

    Good info there.
Are you running your bakki shower as well as the anoxic filter?
2660 Gallons. 4" Bottom Drain and Skimmer. Draco Solum 16 Drum. Anoxic Filtration. Air lift returns.

Yes, anoxic baskets still in the sump. After final test of anoxic solo which failed for me, I decided to start up a bakki. So now they are running together.

I may be wrong but why so much water in the trays?
In my bakki (which is DIY) there is never water standing in the trays. Continuous flow where the media is getting soaked but not submerged.
I do run 30k per hour from the drum and then back to pond through 2 3inch returns.
    My values are as follows:

    - NO3 - 10-15
    - NO2 - 0
    - AMMONIA - 0

thats one heck of a shower
but is the top tray partially blocked? not much trickling going on there...

mind i'm running my shower at <8,000 lph now, and find my parameters are far better.
    Ammonia 0ppb
    Nitrite 0.00ppm
    Nitrate < 5ppm

    My values are as follows:
Media are not submerged in the water. On the top of the first tray there is a flat drip tray made out of transparent plastic.

What media do you use in your setup?

    Thanks for clarifying this.
I am a bit confused then on why you get these results.
My shower is reducing the nitrates significantly. I checked again last night and I got a 10ppm which I am really happy with considering that at the moment I am feeding 300g of growth food per day combined with 50g of sturgeon food.

As for media I have 6 trays in total being part of the DIY setup. Each has 80L capacity and I have a layer of Kanno shower media on the top to allow good water dispersion and the rest is filled with Alfagrog which I find amazing.

How long have you had it running?

    CSM,
but to be fair i think this shower reducing nitrate thing is crap.
the most it will do is possibly gas off a bit of ammonia, there by preventing some conversion into nitrate.

my low nitrate level is solely due to much reduced feeding, and recycle reverse osmosis.
I'm of the opinion that a lot of people are financially influenced to induce people to over feed thier koi.
ramping food sales and causing parasite problems.

That's a lot of food going in. You are probably near the tipping point where it will start making a difference. Mine took a couple of months to mature but since then it works brilliantly and it is my main bio filter.
