    Treatment whilst running a drum

Just treating for blanket weed, don’t want to dilute treatment too much. I have an oase proficlear compact.
    Any tips
can I switch the drum off and run the pump so I get biological filteration and do the odd manual clean Could the drum overflow
or take the screens out for a day or 2.
Or will I have to put 10% extra treatment in for the next feu days to make the treatment right
    Any ideas thanks
    Ian

I’ve just put my Resolve treatment in last week, I always keep the drum running so it clears out the dying off blanket weed. I have had slight problems previously with the drum clogging up with weed a bit when I left the treatment too late !
I just check it a few times a day, manually clear out the waste/overflow and flush the drum screen with the hosepipe to help.
I never dilute or reduce the dose as it doesn’t work as well, I normally use
Aquasource Resolve at recommended dose and sprinkle it straight in the pond, this year I only had about 80% of the recommended dose left in the tub and there is still some blanket weed so will need a second dose (which I never have before!)

Interested to see what else everyone does.

I have the same drum and even on the auto setting only it goes off a fair bit, Interval cleaning disabled.

Thanks for the replays. This is my first summer running a drum after taking the plunge and running a nexus for many years. I am very happy with the drum but I think I have missed a trick by not putting the blanket answer in sooner, cleaning has gone from approx evert 15 mins to every 5 mins.
I have turned by vario flow down to 9000LPH from 16000LPH to help slow down the cleaning and allow the treatment to work.
This treatment is not really an issue because it is relatively cheap compared with medications so I am topping the treatment up twice a day. I know exactly how much water is going in as I have a solenoid valve liked to a digital timer which allows me to calculate dilution then I can adjust.
As the only treatment that got rid of flukes (after trying many medications)last year when I had my nexus was Larnex Pro (had to abuse the recommendations which I would not like to put in the pubic domain). As treatments like this a granular I feel that a drum would dilute and take out the medication (my drum has no bypass). My initial thoughts are that if I needed to use this type of medication again I would initially stop feeding, purge bottom drains, take out screens, treat and run without screens. When treatment finished then take out media and boil/clean media in an large inspection bowl by placing an air stone in it. Then give the drum a good clean and hopefully all will be good to go again. I know there will be drawbacks by such plans but I feel as though there will be a need to hit nasties hard and there will need to be a compromise. I am not suggesting removing mechanical filtration for long only as need be whilst treating I know some people wont like this idea but hey ho lets have your thoughts I know there are many very experienced koi keeper out there, hopefully we can all contribute to keep our koi healthy
    Thanks

    Hi Ian,

I’ve just posted a similar post regarding bypassing the mechanical side of the drum. I too have the Oase.

Did you end up taking your screens out?

I’m thinking it’s my only solution

    Thanks Martin

Sorry for late reply I have been on holiday, at present I have not taken any screens out as the treatment dissolves well, just slowed pump down to reduce cleans. When I need to treat with a more granular medication I intend to take some or all screens out that will create a by pass. This was advised by one of the larger more reputable koi dealers. Would reduce feed to lower mechanical load.
    Thanks
    Ian
