    Trident Nexus Upflow Filter!

    Hi all. Is anyone using the Trident Upflow filter, which replaces the central “Easy” in the Nexus 200/300? It would appear to resolve the Nexus fines issue. Seems to make alot of sense to me, and unsure why EA haven’t already done this!!!

    Cheers,

    Chris

    Hi Chris. If you go on E.A face book page. All the people who have bought one are raving about them. what have you got one bottom drain, nexus 320. Skimmer line?

    when i made my DIY easy on my old pond with a bottom connection.
    i didn't understand why the standard nexus easy allowed dirt in the side of the filter, bypassing most of the media...
    but i did find it would lift the media up as it got dirty.

    looks a good upgrade for nexus users

    Hi Maddog, yes noticed a few rave reviews. Hopefully genuine! A few mins following original post, decided to part with my cash and purchase one 😃
    I’ll post an update on here once I’ve tested it out.
    Fingers crossed it improves the Nexus mechanical. As we all know, it’s woeful out of the box.
    I have a 4,000 gallon pond with BD, Skimmer feeding into a Nexus 200 and Econobead 60 (separate lines), with UV55w.
    Pond is in full sun and fully stocked. Generally loads of suspended fines.

    Cheers,

    Chris.

    Hi Chris. Mine going to be 4000 gallons. Just dug the hole. I'm having one bottom drain to a nexus 320 and a 24" micro bead of the skimmer. Thought with you having a bead, the fines wouldn't be bad.

    The trident will be a lot better with the water been fed up through the filter, instead of fed in from the sides.

    So today I installed my new Trident in the Nexus 200, in place of original Eazy. Also had to purchase K1 micro, so dumped standard K1 into bio chamber.
    Initial thoughts:
    * Seems to handle a decent flow rate, but early days.
    * Build quality/design ok, but definitely more fragile than EA’s version. I think this is because it has more slots in bottom plate, and less structural support. I can see why this design will improve fines collection 🤞, but also understand why EA might not want to take the risk in productionising similar.

    I’ll post an update when I can assess initial performance.

    Says in the description combinied with the nexus auto system....
    So id imagine more frequent cleaning, but in a recent video by Tim show some nexus users only cleaning once every 3 weeks....

    Can't imagine EA being too happy about someone else making upgrade parts for thier nexus...

    After running a 220 for a few years, in the height of summer I’d be cleaning every couple of days, can’t see the Upflow going a couple of days in the same conditions.

    Will happily boil the Trident daily if it means a clear pond as it only takes a couple of minutes.
    One early observation is that it appears to clean the K1 in one flush, possibly two max. 🤞
    On the old Nexus 200 Eazy, I was flushing three times, and it still wasn’t clean. Refused to do it more than that!! 😖

    I can’t really see much advantage personally.
    Also the air cleaning isn’t that going to pushing the waste up.
    I ran a nexus for years with a bead to take out fines, I think you will still have to use a bead as the fines will still be there.
    The cost Of it all I would pay a little more for a drop in drum take the waste out at the beginning of the filtration.

    Am interested in this myself, got a 320 auto to install but will use the original first to see.

    Coming back to this, wondering if a sheet of stainless can be wrapped round the slotted bottom half for a cheap "upgrade", I know it's more than just a solid centre.

    But £340 for this upgrade, not sure if I can justify it just yet.

    I used a piece of plastic floor covering from wickes £5.50 put it on the inside and its working like a dream, ive suffered fines for ages and this really has made a massive difference

    Hi. It’s hard to tell at the moment, because I have a bad suspended algae issue. May need to add more UV, but working through it.
    Anyhow, what I can say it that’s it’s definitely better than the original 200 Eazy!
    * Inner chamber left cleaner
    * Stronger boil
    * Better vortex effect
    * No crud collecting on Eazy grill
    * You can pull it out with media (same as 220 version)

    Is it collecting more fines? Probably.
    Is it collecting all fines? Nope, even on a very slow flow. This could be that my K1 micro is still relatively new.
    Is it worth £300? If you’re upgrading from old standard K1 version, I’d say yes.
    If you have a K1 micro Eazy, I hear good reports on simply covering up the sides!

    I’m 70% confident it will keep good water clarity once I’m over the bloom. Time will tell…

    Was thinking if a bodge up, stainless (or whatever) wrapped on outside as that's where the water comes in, so should stop any bits snagging on the grill, before moving up through the easy?

    i was worried about that but it just hasnt happened because the plastic is pushed right up inside there are no bits catching and after a boil i just use a watering can with out the rosette to rinse it of. im really happy with how its performing after a week and the difference really is fantastic.
