New bigger sieve
So I have the compact sieve (green one) and it’s brilliant love it!
Issue I got is a went away for three days and was a little worried if it would get to to full. Luckily it didn’t but it was probably a day and half off of being full of collected blanket weed and potentially causing an issue.
So I’m thinking of going for a bigger sieve filter altogether one at least double the size so it could take upto a week of me being away without an issue!
I am pump fed so it must be compatible with that any one got any good recommendations. Am considering the ea one but they look huge however if that the only decent option that what I will go for!
Cheers guys

I've got a pump fed Air Aqua or could be Aqua Air (I'll have a look later) sieve and that collects a fair amount. I think it has a 300 micron screen. The Compact sieve has a slightly finer screen I think. The EA Cetus is a massive bit of kit and can be converted from pump to gravity and I seem to remember it comes with a 300 micron screen and you can buy a 250 or could be a 200 micron screen for it but that's quite expensive. The pump fed sieves have an overflow on them. Well the 3 different ones I've seen have. So you can either route the overflow straight back into the pond or like I've done, back into the outlet pipework which then runs through my Eazy Pod. Not sure if mine has ever blocked enough to run through the overflow? Seeing as I'm treating for blanket weed I try to clean the muck out of the sieve once a daybut normally it can go a week without any problems and longer in the winter.

Just checked and it is an Air Aqua Super Sieve that I have.
For the price difference of a bigger if you have room I'd be tempted to go for a second compact sieve in parallel with your existing one as you can buy them new for about £200 and I don't think the the Air Aqua or the Cetus is anywhere near that cheap. Form what I've read about the compact sieve it has 75mm push fit which I'm guessing you have already got over connecting that to normal sized pressure pipe so it should be easy to get some more fitting for it and jobs a good'en?
Bloody hell the prices have gone up as they are now just over £250 but still cheaper than the other 2 I mentioned.________________________________________________

Cheers Frim,
So I have treated 8 days ago for blanket weed and this is what I collected IMG_4700.jpg
Which as you can see is quiet a lot! And it’s so funny you say that about doubling up on the compact sieve I did think of that! You can buy them 2nd hand for around 150 which doesn’t bother me they are so robust I can’t see an issue buying 2nd hand. Or alternatively when I have a holiday coming up dowse heavy on the blanket weed treatment to get rid of it so it doesn’t cause an issue when I’m away! It really does make me consider getting ro recycling unit to strip all the crap we get in our water that helps all the anoying things in the hobbie

I reckon adding an overflow is the way forward. Cheaper and fool proof.
2660 Gallons. 4" Bottom Drain and Skimmer. Draco Solum 16 Drum. Anoxic Filtration. Air lift returns.

Mate it so bad at mine at the moment. I’m going to treat again with resolve to really f it up lol it’s driving me nuts! Like you said I Hoover the pond weekley too which collects some! I honestly don’t know how I’m getting so much as on the walls it’s only about 2 cm long tops! Very strange! But this is my new mission to make my filtration system beefy enough to hack it. Which I think will be getting another compact sieve and then that way future proofing a new system for a new bigger pond in the future! I know a drum would be ideal but I don’t have the money or the patience to piss around with one. Either that or I’m abit jealous of them

The problem with blanket weed is from the way I understand it is your normal bio filtration converts Ammonia into Nitrate at the end of the process. Both Ammonia and Nitrate are good plant fertilisers so you need something that removes the Nitrate as well. Showers, anoxic filters, trickle towers and veggie filters remove both Ammonia and Nitrate. There are other options which involve altering the water chemistry to take away the food supply for the blanket weed. Or the alternatives are physically pulling it out or using something like Aquasource Resolve. I found the dose of Aquasource needed to be a bit higher than what it recommends on the tub as the last dose I used did very little.

Yeah mate I did use that product called zinger which eats phosphates but that done nothing for my pond and cost a fortune for what it is !

Hi Frim sorry for the late reply! That what I use mate the resolve. But the zinger is different it’s like a large tablet that stays in ya water constantly, but it’s not worked for me. So got back on the resolve. Treated 3 times this year and twice over a two week period one week ago and it looks like it’s nuked it. But I still getting loads of it in the sieve still? Even tho I Hoover the pond weekley! I don’t know where it’s coming from !

It's usually high Nitrate and or Phosphate and also Ammonia but hopefully your filters should have that under control

Best plants to remove Nitrate
pug has a very impressive veg filter on his pond, have a look at some of his his youtube videos....
