Got one in the shed grow at the moment John but wanting to have a moving bed to hide it in the garden and keep the noise level down trying to push on and get them set up outside ASAP but isn't working at the moment

Fred used a mix of helx 13

Thought about that one with anoxic but would all the crap sit on the tops and not go down the bd

Thing is there shouldn't be much crap going in there as its bio, that's the one helx couldn't think of it.
Not sure if it would mix with anoxic maybe better asking someone who knows mate.
I have anoxic baskets on their own and dont get crap on the top though I usually flush the water out once a year

Would cost a lot to fill an ibc with plastic media would think.

My mistake John I've worded it wrong I'll start again lol

I have the icb that am using as the grow on tank outside

It'll have bd to your sieve then to a moving bed of k1 just not sure how much Ammonia ect that 50lt k1 will handle or do I need to find a bigger vessel for the k1

I have a 100lrt box ready to rock that's all

    Sorry for the confusion

    Ok Aj no probs,
With you now thought you were useing ibc for bio.
That should be good mate,I believe ibc has a 2ins outlet with a valve so an instant bottom drain there to seive then bio.
You will have to get the seive height spot on there to work ok.

Maybe the helex would work in the 100ltrs tank not too sure how much you need mate.

I'm sure I read on the EA page when looking for the amount of food K1 can handle that it says to use 25% of the containers volume for a moving bed to get the best performance of it rolling.

In a moving bed chamber - You would want no more than 25% of the chamber to be filled with K1 as this allows enough water to help it to be fluidised properly.
Off the EA section here: https://evolutionaqua.com/knowledge-...r-my-aquarium/ at the bottom on the question: 'how do I work out how much media I need for my aquarium?

if it were me, i'd be tempted to use a shower with ceramic shower media for it's massive surface area...
    and protein skimming potential,
you could also lay a piece of filter mat on the top of the shower to remove fines....

if you have a shower running, you could even use some pieces already matured to give the rest of it a kick start.(assuming pond 100% parasite free, and running fine....)
1 box of CSM 25litres about the same price as 25 litres K1 micro.... 60 ish

I'm thinking of adding a box of CSM to my roto shower just to give it some more media even though it has 250l of crystal bio

i'm thinking about removing my moving bed of K1 micro, and using 4 boxes of CSM instead.
it must have 10 times the surface area....

i liked how it performed submerged and aerated on my old pond for 4 years...

i don't know what it is, but i just don't like grog....and not the navy/pirate drink

i think it stems back to when i had it as aquascaping rock in a tropical fish tank back in the day...
always just seemed to get clogged with crap...

Aye it dose like gotta have a decent soilds filter before it or its probably worse than no filter .

The plan in my head now for using the shower will work and shouldn't be to noisy to be fair as I have some matting in there now anyway and when I take down the inside tank I'll have spare polystyrene sheets and 18mm osb to box it all I'm but we ll see how it pans out
