Pond salt and bakkishowers
Here’s a question, I’m no chemist but I do know if you run salt water over rocks, the rocks collect some of the salt, so if you treat your pond with salt and run a shower with ceramic media, will the media eventually become coated in salt and rendered useless?
doing the new pond thing at the mo and getting fairly high nitrite (although it’s improving) some people have suggested using salt to combat the effects of ammonia and nitrite but will it knacker me shower?

what i think you are reffering to is 'salt creep' that marine reef tanks can experience, where you have an area of high evaporation.
in a pond the salt level is no where near as high as sea water, and it's only really has potential where water splashes above the water line and dries out.
so it's possible around the edges of the shower where you would get other salt splashes build up like calcium carbonate. (limescale)
which is out of the flow of water and media so wouldn't affect it.Last edited by davethefish1; 18-07-2021 at 09:52 PM.
