    Blanket weed

I believe I got the beginning of the f ing Blanket weed again. But the reason for my message is that I used aqua resolve and it worked like it did last year but then when it comes back months later I retreat with aqua resolve and it doesn’t kill it off? I don’t know why two years on the bounce it has done this? Does anyone have any recommendations? I want to catch it ASAP before it gets two long and clogs up my filters. Blanket weed ends up being a costly expense Blanket weedBlanket weedBlanket weed

I know what you mean! I'm having the same problem. Been using a monthly dose this year but it's still taking over and even blocked the retro BD in a few days due another dose tomorrow but may go for a dose every 10 days for a month to see if that gets the job done

If needed I use blanket answer at 50% of the recommended dosage. I’ve found that at the max two treatments a year (early June and late August) are sufficient.

I think some members have reported issues with it e.g. distressing their fish but mine have been Ok so far.

Really! That’s a joke ain’t it! Monthly dose starts costing dough though doesn’t it! Is there really nothing that just the job? I might over dose on the next one I do! Not by a lot maybe like 10 -15% more. My pond is only 1000 gallons I can’t imagine how much it would cost if it was like 4K

This is what I’ve used in the past:
    https://www.orchardfisheries.co.uk/anti-blanket-weed

Always worked for me, using the recommended dose.

I think the more volume of water you have the lower the concentration of Ammonia, Nitrate and Phosphate you have or at least the slower the rise of them all compared to a smaller pond which is usually a bit over stocked. Well I know mine is over stocked and that's probably why I'm struggling so much with blanket weed the last couple of years. The fish are getting bigger and producing more waste so the filters are having to work harder and harder

Hmmmm interesting. Blanket weed feeds off nitrate. Fish poo causes nitrate. And then the filters like moving bed, static bed etc Dont remove nitrate do they? Only showers with certain media does doesn’t it? Or pond plants. Talking out loud there just to confirm I’m thinking correctly really. I have 3 floating pond plants that have boomed this year. Had to chop them back twice already. I’m assuming this is helping me out maybe? But still even with high nitrate present you would of thought that these blanket weed treatments would kill off the weed easily. Well by what the tub says you would anyway Blanket weed

I haven’t found anything that kills blanket weed, all you can do is treat it to keep it at bay, treat really before it really takes a hold, the longer you leave it the more you will dump in the filters, treating it will cause it to break up, just keep it at bay, aim for a nicely mown lawn on the side of the pond.

It's not just Nitrate that acts as plant food, it's Ammonia and Phosphate too.

Your filters should deal with the Ammonia as long as you don't over feed too often

The filters are working ace. So not concerned about that just tryna gather why this weed doing die off completely. And if it can. Seems ok for now though mind you checked today and no growth. Just waiting for my delivery and il redose this weekend regardless. To keep one step ahead
