    Ultra Bead UB 60 emtying

    Needs some advice

Farther in law has 2 Ultra Bead UB 60 which he has had removed and I would like to build a Koi pond.

I have to collect them but he says they are too heavy to lift into my pickup.

Can I remove the clear lid on the tanks and take out the beads to make them lighter?

When I moved my bead from the old house to the new house last year it was really heavy 2 of us struggled. Turned out although I thought all of the water was out it wasn't. If yiu can get the lid off and get all the beads and water out it'll make it a lot lighter. If you're going to the effort of taking the beads out I'd pp the beads too.

Yep very heavy with beads, easy to remove, I had to do that to mine to lift it into the filter bay

Cheers Steve1984. Thought that would be the case as they are only made of fibreglass!

Newbie here so what does 'pp' mean? They are unused as the house was built by a builder for him and his wife and he installed the pond with filters etc. Wife didnt want to move so the house was sold as a new build. Farther in law didnt like the pond so had it removed. So everything is pretty much unused...

Just try to build my first Koi pond. Had fish ponds before but always wanted a Koi pond... so lots of questions for you guys!!

No problem, if the filter is new then you probably don't need to pp the beads. PP stands for Potassium Permangante. Ive only ever used it to sterilise my new builds and filters before any stock has been added. It kills off nasties in the water, I know it can be used when ponds are stocked but it's got to be done with caution as it can wipe out everything
