K1 type media
Hi all, has anyone used or got any experience with K1 type media they sell on ebay. Looks OK and cheap at £80 for 100 Litres. I'm thinking of using it for a static and moving bed.

Thanks lads, but It's not the original K1 I'm talking about. It's the one on ebay item number below.

I have both real and copy k1 in my moving bed and it all goes brown so guessing it all does the job. The Oase stuff does look a different class tbh but expensive if you need a lot but if I was buying 100ltrs I’d live with the extra cost for what it’s worth

Thanks again lads. The idea is to convert my 8 bay kockney koi filter into static and moving beds instead of brushes and jap matting. Might just get the cheap media to start with, and if I can get it working right I can upgrade to Hel-X later.

I use the stuff that coastal Koi do. It's called Biocell. Comes in different forms to replicate K1, k3 etc... Works for me no problem.
As far as I see it they are just bits of plastic.
The main thing for me is whatever media you use, they're neutrally bouyant when mature. You don't want stuff that sinks and stays on the bottom of the moving bed chamber.
I recall someone on here using biochips and found they'd all sunk and were just collecting crap in the bottom of the tank.

I'm thinking along the same lines twns, They can't all be that far apart on performance. This media looks just as good as K1 to me.

Haha am the first on here to save a penny and will always go cheapest way. Back fired big time with the pond tho first started I want it done ASAP cheap as pos think I got the whole build done filter pump liner bricks the lot for 600 notes some where round there and the money time and effort on the redo is killing me lol.. I know the media is different but as twns says its all just bits of plastic tbf I don't even know who am trying to kid if it's 100 for k1 or 95 for cheap I'll go cheap lol haha

Looks like the stuff i brought for my moving bed.
Its only been running six weeks but looks ok to me. But i'm no expert by any standards. Its not sinking and buoyancy seems pretty neutral still so that's all i have to go by.

I have 50 litres of ea k1 and added a further 25 litres of all pond solutions similar to k1. Mate it’s the same stuff just a slightly different size. Personally I would go for the cheaper options from now on as they are basically identical.
