Filtreau 20 spray bar pipe size
Hi,
I am in the process of plumbing in a Filreau 20 drum filter and I'm a bit stuck on the pipe size to join the spray bar. I have got 1 inch pressure pipe fittings, but when I put the spray bar into a 90 bend it seems too small and loose for a solvent weld fitting. Do I need some sort of a reducer for it to fit? Any help would be much appreciated.
Greg.

I’ll have a look when I’m home. And send a picture

depends how loose, there are so many brands of pressure fittings... have you tried it in a different 1" fitting could be an odd rogue one...
some of the brands do seem have wide tolerances... or the sceptical might say they deliberately make their own brand fittings only compatible with thier own brand pipe....
if it is the right size but just a little loose use a thicker adhesive with more body.
or stand the fitting on end and support it to allow the adhesive to fill the gap. a little difficult with a spraybar though...
and wipe cleanly to make a solid meniscus around the pipe. and give it a lot longer to set.
but we are talking around 1mm gap max here...

Thanks for the replies,
Hi Dave, yes I tried it on a couple of different makes of fittings and it's the pipe on the filter which is smaller. I would say it is 1mm or a little or all the way around too small.
I am going to plumb it in using a solenoid valve onto mains water, my water pressure is not too high so maybe I could get away with what you say as the pressure should not be too high. It just seems a bit odd, I was thinking maybe they used a metric sized pipe like 32mm and it needs something to make it fit 1 inch nicely?

would have thought the manual would state pipe sizes...

a picture might help....

Thanks again for replies and pics, I checked the manual, but there is nothing I could find in it about pipe sizes to be honest the manual is quite poor.
I think I might have to go the same with a flexible rubber fitting to give me a bit more tolerance.

Plumbed mine in a few weeks ago and found 32mm fittings fitted perfectly.

I am using a rubber boot. I think you need an imperial to metric pressure pipe adaptor.

I struggled with pipe size when setting up my drum, replaced some pipework a few weeks back and had the same issue.
I ended up using 32mm solvent weld pipework from screwfix, it was still a little loose but a good smear of gold label around the spray bar and pump outlet sorted it out.

So I thought I would just post a quick update just incase anyone has the same problem. After a bit of searching I found a 32mm to 1inch reducer which worked perfectly. Thanks for everyone's help

Hi.
Do you have the drum up and running. If so (I know it’s only a short time) what are your opinions? I am looking to buy one but was a bit worried about some of the comments on some forums.
Thanks

It's been great so far, just set it up (positioned to the correct water level) turned it on and it just works. One thing I would say is that I have a vari 20000 pump and I can only get it to around 80% before it drops the water level in the drum and it goes off all the time. I only currently have a mid water and just a surface return out of a pipe. I think it might struggle a bit if I wanted to put a shower in too to pump the water up to it, as I wouldn't get the flow rate through it. But they do the HF30 which would be better if you need to up the flow rate. I used a 240v solenoid valve which is plugged into the wash pump socket and it works perfectly. I really dont think it needs huge water pressure either as mine works fine and I wouldn't say my mains water pressure is that high at all.

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
