Hmm.
Did he say how much the mesh would be? And also is it a big faff to get the drum out and the mesh off and the new mesh on tight?
I'm tempted to go down this route. But just don't want to go to a big effort If I'm still in pretty much the same situation after.
Fancy having a go and telling me how you get on

Some good advice above Mark,I sold my Nexus 3oo kept the bio and made a bio box and bought a Solum 25,think you've seen mine.
But, the other advantage with a drop in is if something goes wrong you can easily and quickly go back to the ordinary Nexus.
That's the thing with mechanical drums they can and will eventually go wrong and things wear out, where as a Nexus lasts for ever.John

Hi John,
Ive been looking at all options and due to the position of my incoming pipe from the bottom drain and the space is limited. I am struggling to fit the Solum16 and the smallest bio with enough space for the pipework. The fact I’m looking an ASHP before next winter makes things harder due to the pipework directions.
Its looking like keep the Nexus and add a Draco Drop in, like John stated, there’s nothing to go wrong on the Nexus and it’s working fine biologically, I’m still on the K1 that came with it so space to add more as my fish grow.12’500 Litre - bottom drain - lined pond

Ha ha.
Looks like DBS beat us to it.
I just have visions of it going horribly wrong then I'll be without a drum and cursing that I ever touch the damned thing.

I think I understand naoki's YouTube videos better than I understood those instructions
But it does sound like the new mesh did reduce clean frequency and didn't affect water quality from what I can make out.

Following much thinking I’ve followed Johns advice and opted for the Draco 2 drop in which was delivered last weekend by Tony from Draco himself. Installed the drum following the tips given and it’s now been running for a week. I am dumbfounded by the difference it’s made, my water is so clear, wish I’d done it earlier! Oh and to celebrate, I have just added 3 new koi, Yamabuki, kujaku and a goshiki.

Know what you mean, I used to think my water was clear with my old filter but now the drum has been running for a while the water just looks so polished
Nice fish, love the Goshiki.

I know what you both mean. When I swapped out my Nexus’ for the drums each drum did about 200 cleans in 24 hrs then fell back to about 75.
The difference was amazing and, its a cliche I know, after a few days the fish seemed livelier, more responsive and hungrier

This photo that shows how much muck gets through a pump fed Nexus. I took it when I was considering upgrading my systems to drums and weighing cost vs benefits.
My old system had several Nexus 300s, 2 Cetus Sieves and a Ultra Bead on the heat pump (still in use) and all on separate pumps.
I was shocked. It shows one outlet flowing into a 60micron plastic oil barrel filter mesh that I bought on eBay.
I realise gravity Nexus’ will be much better than pump fed but imo they will never come close to drums….

Yeah mine has to be overloaded.
When you think about it I added a drop in drum because the Nexus was completely blocked within 24 hours in summer, so if the Nexus was too small for the pond then adding a drum into the Nexus was never going to fully solve that problem hence the frequent cleaning.
Really I need a physically bigger drum that can take at least 15k lph.

large drum and bio is the way to go, im considering going for 25 micron screen on my drum
the higher the turn over rate, the less particles you will have in in the pond overall, this is what i experienced between my mk1 drum to my mk2 drum as the mk1 drum was limited to 20k lph where the new drum upto 120k lph , the downside i have 1 bottom drain and 1 skimmer line , but due to my drum being 650mm dia its sits along way below the water line, so the flow of water will always be much greater than smaller drums sitting 300mm below water level . if that makes sense.

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
