thermostat/heater
good morning everyone, i have a 300lt tank that i would like to use as a grow on, the problem i have is trying to find a thermostat/heater that has a temp range of between 5 -25 degrees as the fingerlings i want are kept outdoors and temp from purchase to tank is a big difference, could anyone recommend a therm/heater that has a wider range, most are between 18 -26 i want something that i can start at 5 and increase over a couple of weeks up to 25. thanks all

Morning
The only thing I can think of is to use an external controller like the STC 1000, you can then set what ever temp you want, let's say 10c. The controller will keep the heater on till it reaches the set temp of 10, or just over depending what you set it on. Then switches the heater off till it drops to what ever you have it set at. Then heats back up to set temp.
I don't think you can buy of the shelf aquarium heaters with the temp range you desire.
I used to have one on my marine aquarium, I now have one set up on my fermentation fridge, but that's another story!
Cheers
Jay

If you search inkbird, there is a plug and play one, just more expensive. From memory they are not alot though mate.

Hi,
Where are you planning on keeping the tank? Indoors, outdoors, unheated garage?
Just because a heater says 26c does not mean it will heat the water to that. It’s all subjective to the capacity ,ambient temperature, heater power
I agree though that an external temp controller would be a good option but make sure you get a high enough watt heater to suit your needs

This is a simple plug and play option

hi mike, the tank is in and outbuilding, at the moment its at about 19c but i want to take it down to say 10c and raise it once fish have been added. is that inkbird easy to set up? i have a 300w heater/thermostat with an external sensor that alarms after temp fluctuation do i just plug this into heating socket set temp and off we go ?

I use an inkbird 308 on my set up for a 600watt heater and it's perfect for the job. So should work fine for a 300watt heater.
The instructions are a little confusing to start off with. But once you know what each code relates to, it's a piece of piss to adjust.
I went for the ink bird which has an un-pluggable sensor, because I needed to thread it through some conduit.
Think there are versions that include wi-fi, a longer sensor probe, plastic temperature probed, 2 temperature probes etc.. but unless there is a specific reason you need one of these features, Id suggest just going for the standard model.

And yes, you plug the stat in to a standard electric socket, then plug your heater into the stat socket labelled 'heater', chuck your probe into wherever it needs to go and turn it all on.
To change the temps, just hold down the set button. Once on the settings menu then use the up and down buttons to set the temp you want, then hold down set button to store that setting, or press set button quickly to take you to the next option in the menu.
The options in the menu include heat target temp, heating differential temp, a cooling temp and a cooling temp differential temp.

That looks good. I might buy one to replace current STC-1000 (TC-225).
In fact the inkbird actually works out cheaper once you factor in cost of the socket, the box you have to make up for all the wiring etc etc.
With something as critical as heating I would buy 2, so there's a spare for when the first one eventually fails.

Actually, on 2nd thoughts there's a few reviews about the inkbird being a fire risk with it melting at the back of the heating socket.

The other option is to pay more for this one, which actually has a subtle reference to the inkbird fire safety record if you look through the photos!

If I got a inkbird could I just run it as a thermometer with the added bonus of if I wanted to put a drop in in next year its there ready?. Sick of buying little cheap thermometers now want some it decent but that won't brake the bank like the seneye

I reckon you could. Whether it'll remain accurate over the lifetime of the product I don't know.
But in its favour, it has a calibration setting. So if it starts measuring out by a degree or two, you can rectify it.
