3 Stage Dechlorinator Questions.
Hi all,I am recently new to the hobby after building my first proper koi pond this year. I have just got round to plumbing in my trickle in system today. Once plumbed in I flushed the cartridges for at least 10 mins before turning the flow down to a trickle. At this point I took a sample of the output water and checked for chlorine. All good!!
I then checked the pH reading which was at 8.4. My water supply is at 7.4. Is this normal with new filter cartridges and does it decrease over time? My pond has been running at 8.1/8.2 pH so I am a little concerned over adding water which may increase this!

It’s normal- it’s not that the cartridges are doing anything to the pH really, but what you need to do to check your mains water true pH is leave a jug of tap water open to the air overnight and then test the pH. Water coming into your house has been in underwater sealed pipes and often carries some CO2 making it artificially acidic. Once that has gassed off you can assess it’s true pH.
