Skimmer filter....
Afternoon guys, so at the min I’m running a gravity fed eazy pod on my skimmer line and during summer it returns to a water blade, and at the min it just goes to a return under water, I’m really not liking the pod tbh what else could I fit? main filter is a gravity fed nexus 220, just do not like this pod! I can’t fit a shower as I have nowhere to put it, and the boss doesn’t like the look of them!

Hi mate,
If you are using the pod as mechanical filtration from the skimmer I would suggest sieve or better still a small drum. Sieve ma are OK but still let a shocking amount of debris through.
In the closer season I will be swapping all my sieves for drums due to the improved performance. These will be Filtreau HF20 & 30 versions.
if you are interested in one please PM me (sieve or drum).
Cheers

Hi
I went belt and braces on my skimmer. Ultrasieve 3 with a small bead and UV. This gives me disaster control if the main filter pump goes down or the bottom drain blocks while I am away. Two complete filter setups have got to be the way to go as It also means I can shut one down for days if things need fixing or changing so no panic gluing in the rain and the dark only to have a rushed job.

I'm thinking of getting a second hand sieve to put on my skimmer line, followed by a shower.
Mainly because I want to increase flow but annoyingly my draco solum 16 can't handle any more flow.
I understand Sieves usually come with 300 micron mesh. If they still let through a lot of muck, do you reckon it'd still work ok if I put a bit of 100 micron mesh over the mesh screen?

I reckon a k1 micro bead might just be the best way to go

How is your flow rate through your main BD filter?
If you are in the position of wanting a bit more flow, as many Nexus owners are, your skimmer line gives you the chance to achieve that.
If your budget can run to one of the cheaper small drum units, it would improve your water clarity and flow and be a very good addition. More expensive than a Pod, but many times better so worth it in my book.2016 new 6000 gallon pond

Tbh I can’t stand the pod! Truly think it’s a load of crap! Maybe a small drum would be the way to go, but does anyone rate the ea k1micro beads?

The drum would do the better job pal without any doubt and a lot less maintenance for you. Skimmers collect a surprising amount of debris (and food) and sieves let through a disappointing amount. Reducing the mesh on the sieve may work so long as it is solidly fixed, however it will block and you are the cleaner ....

I agree the drum is the best option.
But it is all about funds.
I run 2 seperate lines. Sieve uv on one line
Nexus draco uv shower 2nd line.
If you have the funds. I would get a large enough drum with 2 or 3 inlets and outlets. And a bio tank after the drum. Onto a shower. You would be laughing. Run skimmer and bottom drain into the drum.

As a main filter on a small pond I’m sure there great but on my setup and for the skimmer it’s crap, so much work to clean etc, it just doesn’t work for me
Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
