    Finally got hirdoclean installed

After buying it months ago finally got round to installing this morning photos to follow later today. Hopefully it mean less cleaning as itís meant to filter down to 100 micron ?!

Got a couple of small drips on some connections but I was rushing and should of put ptfe tape but it will hold for now.

Also had ripped out the clear pond 25 filter changed the incoming and outgoing pipework and freed up loads of space...might be able to get a eazy pod in there....

Iím also enquireing about a converted sand filter k1 itís only small but what are people thoughts are on this.

I was wondering how you had got on with the hidroclean filter as I was thinking about maybe swapping the filter on the skimmer line for one then I could run the pump a bit faster when I swap the Aqua Forte for the EA one then use the Aqua Forte on the skimmer line.

The current 3500 lph Aqua Forte isn't running quick enough for my liking but the current filter can only take about 3000 lph max I think so have stuck with it for now.

Can the hidroclean filter be mounted straight onto the outlet of a pump like you are supposed to be able to do with a multi cyclone filter, or do you need the stand you have to buy separately?

Be good to hear how you got on with it and see some photos later

Iíve think Iíve sorted out the leaking pipework but check this tomorrow morning to see if the water has dropped! I thought it would limit the flow down but it doesnít seem to have affected 7k lph at all. At present the unit feeds direct from the pump then Iíve got it going into a Y spitter to control the volume between the clear pond 25 and the water fall. Itís a pressurised unit so it can fit in anyway.

Iíll report probably in a weeks time to see how much crud it has caught but having said that not really feeding atm so not the best time to really test it.

Anyone got any information on converted sand filters?

If it's rated at 100 micron it will be collecting a fair bit I'd have thought unless you have a drum on your main filter system.

I've got a 100 micron filter sock after my Eazy Pod which is fed via a pump fed sieve which has a 300 micron screen but the filter sock is still collecting a fair bit and I'm only feeding 2 small feeds per day.

    True DIY style then lol

Or just a temporary set up for now

I split the outlet of the pressure filter on my skimmer line so I can bypass the protein skimmer when required. I have one of those Oase Ys with valves on the outlets.

Not sure if I had a bad batch but of the 4 I bought at least 2 of them have got issues with the valve on one outlet just spinning so I have to be careful when trying to turn those particular valves off.

I thought it would of created a reduced flow after it had gone through the unit so Iím thinking itís not set up right time will tell I guess.

Haha yes didnít want to put it off any longer. Iíll get some builders band metal next week to secure it better.

Iíve still got the 200 micron sock on inlet to the box so hopefully mean less cleaning. Going to stick some jap matting on the two outer sections.

Iíve got super fish valve found it really good to be fair and it takes 2 inch pipe.

Bet the Superfish fittings are cheaper than the Oase ones I have lol

If the filter is rated at 100 micron you should be able to tell in days as the 100 micron filter sock I swapped yesterday morning is already looking dirty. I got a week out of the last one but not 100% sure it was a 100 as I didn't buy it plus it feels more solid than the 100s I bought. Feels more like the bigger 400 I bought first last year.

Ye it was £22 I think and seems to be doing alright. I remade all the connections bar two yesterday hoping that would stop the leak but lost about 70 litres in 24 hours.....

Checked again today when I got home and everything I had redone was fine but the outlets on the filter box were leaking pretty bad. (Between the outlet and the box it self) Got the wrench out and tightened them both so hopefully that will do it. If not think will have to strip it down and get new washers and seal it up as well. Time will tell I guess

The two connections I havenít done are at the bottom of the hirdoclean but itís very hard to reach so might have to take out the unit which I donít want to do at this stage!!

Checked the 200 micron filter bag seemed fairly clear so hopefully itís all working well. Just need some jap matting now and still looking into the converted k1 sand filter.

Is your Superfish valve a Y or just a straight through valve as the Y's are only 40mm that I have found. The Oase is 50mm on the inlet and 40mm on the 2 outlets.

Good luck sorting your leaks out.

If you're struggling with the leaks you could try some of this -

Itís a Y valve but you can take off the hose tails which makes it 1.5 inch or 2 inch I think. (Iíll check tomorrow)

Leak has seemed to sorted it self which is good news!

It seems to be working pretty well, not much muck caught in the 200 micron bag just need to put jap matting in the box

Couple of questions for you, how easy are they to clean and do you loose much pressure through them?

Any photos of it set up and running yet?

Donít seem to loose any pressure at all to be honest. Iíve got loads of photos but as Iím on the mobile site canít upload them unless go over to the full site?

Easy to clean - just release the ring at the top (is a little hard and requires two hands as it does form a tight seal). Pop out the cartridge unscrew the top a little bit and the rinse down with a hose and then retighten and slot back in and put the lid back in.

There are a couple of drain valves as well you can setup to remove all the crud which has collected within the unit. Iím just using the pond vac whilst Iíve got it out to give it quick clean out. Something for next summer to get plumbed in!
