queni koi lotus root bakki shower media
didnt want to go public but queni koi to respond to my email some 3 weeks ago failed to respond.
a fellow extreme koi member informed me that their newest chinese made media is substandard
this is their lotus root xl and small brought 2 batches around april- june this year.
as can be seen its become very brittle and easily breaks down by rubbing and scratching with your nails , when it was new i couldnt do this and it wasnt that easy to break , the large piece broke in 2 as i lifted it out the bakki shower .
im am very disappointed in this product and their zero communication so far

Seems crumbly to me on the vid.. I watched a YouTube vid the other day and his had been in two years and was like new other than the colour had changed.

just had a full refund thanks queni koi much respect , to anyone out there please avoid this media , mike has said mountain tree (china) who make it are burying their heads in the sand despite a number of customers now reporting problems .
if i were them id remove them from sale not good if this continues to happen to other customers
fred alerted me to potential issue with this media after his friend said they falling apart after 12 months use
as these get weaker over time it stands the reason mine will be in bits by then as well, already loads of broken off bits in the top tray .

It’s not the only shower media product to show a lack of durability unfortunately.
One of the sintered glass product was even irritating fish gills when it broke down for someone on this forum a couple of years back.
Mike Snaden of Yume Koi recently shared his thoughts on some of the BHM ‘copes’ recently on his Yume Koi Japan YouTube channel- it’s probable that these copes are not being baked at the extreme temperatures that they claim to be.
Mike at Queni is a good guy though who looks after his customers. If it’s a bad batch of the product and he’s done all he can to refund you then that’s great.2016 new 6000 gallon pond

Thanks for posting, I had been looking at this product and although it seemed very costly, I thought that it might be worth investing in for a planned filter upgrade. Will be avoiding now, unless they get the problem sorted.

It’s got nothing to do with what temperature they’re made at, it’s got everything to do with the fact that they’re not designed to filter water, they’re designed to filter molten metals, sometimes they’re used in air quality filter systems.
The cheap Chinese stuff will contain phosphates which makes them crumble after a period of being immersed/soaked with water.
I’ve had maybe 30 different types on test for over a year, half of them are junk. The more robust ones are are not far off being the same price as BHM which has at least got history of being long lasting albeit it’s not cheap.
“Mountain Tree” almost certainly don’t manufacture this stuff themselves, they’re just a reseller of tat like most of the Chinese “factories” you’ll find on Alibaba.com. Unless you’re out there on a regular basis visiting the suppliers and checking their provenance you are more than likely dealing with Mrs Wong and her mum. Half of them are compete shysters.

Ive just bought 5 boxes of Shigure bacteria home....., I will see what happens.
I was going to buy the mountain house one so now glad I didn't.
Fingers crossed I suppose, but then where would the fun be if I couldn't obsess about my water .
N Ireland lockdown 2 arrives unsurprisingly to add to our fun and games.

I am a believed in the ‘buy cheap, buy twice’ mantra. It’s certainly been true if many of the corners I’ve tried to cut in my life only to come back to the more expensive proven product in the end anyway having wasted a bunch of cash. Has anyone else ever tried shop own brand weetabix for example? Like eating shredded cardboard
I think this thread is a pretty good advert for Momotaro BHM
