    Draco retro bottom drain

Can anyone with experience or knowledge of the above please clarify something for me please.
    The setting up instructions say

"Mount the outer flange plate behind the liner but inside the pond structural wall, with the top of the plate at around water level".

Is there a specific reason for this position? I was ideally going to position it lower so it's less visible. Can anyone clarify.please.

I can’t see it would matter at what level the pipe goes through the wall, so long as it’s below surface level. You should avoid having up and then down loops in the pipe as air locks etc. could then happen.

I'm in a similar position regards retro bottom drain piping through wall,I'm guessing as has been said asking as it's hidden below water level it'll be sound, obviously if it's as high up as possible without being on show, should any problems arise as in resealing etc then you'd only need to drop water level minimally to access perhaps that's the thinking behind it?

I’m not really sure what the thinking behind it is, might be worth asking Tony at Draco.

Tony replied to my post on facebook. The jist of his reply is that it's good at any height as long as it's below water level. The wording of the explanation is just to clarify to buyers that it needs to be lower than pond surface level.
My thought was that I'd keep it as low as possible so less visible, although your explanation of access is also a good point

The pictures of the install show an airlock pipe, I assume this is why it has to be near to the top water level? I am waiting on delivery of my draco drain I can't check if this pipe is supplied or not until it is delivered.

Yeah maybe. Although I'd probably just extend that

My drain has arrived and there isn't an airlock pipe in with the rest of the parts; trying to find out if this is a missing part or it's not supplied anymore as there isn't any hole for it to connect to.

You shouldn’t really need an airlock pipe unless you had the pipe going upwards and then downwards prior to connecting to your filter.

That was how my planned pipework was going to be, may have to lower the point through the sleepers now so as not to have to much up and down in the pipes.
