I love it can you link me to where I can get all that?

Does the slate come in different colours? My tiles I’ve ordered are this colour so not 100% sure it would go with black

Also since you used sealant and not mortar do you have any play in regards to getting them level? If your wall isn’t 100% perfectly level would your slate not be perfect or are you able to use a lot of sealant as filler?

Yeah, although the wall was pretty spot on (even though I do say so myself ) the fibreglass creates a slightly uneven lip as it comes over the brick on the inside edge.

I have a pack of plastic packers that I had for fitting doors and windows and used them to get the slates level (they would sink in a deep bead of sealant otherwise. If you were not wanting to do that I suppose you could instead put a mortar bed down the centre/towards the outside edge of the wall and the sealant at the edges where it could be visible particularly where the fibreglass meets the copings. I like having no mortar at all to worry about though.

My copings were from here https://slateandstone.net/
I had them machined with a rounded off edge and a drip channel underneath the outside overhand all the way round. I sent them a bunch of measurements and diagrams and they machined it to order and shipped it on a half palate. The thickness of the slate is absolutely perfect if you have them made like this.

If you don’t want a dark colour then slate is probably not for you. I would assume that there are companies who can machine sandstone in a similar way if you’re prepared to pay the cost of it. I asked Simon for copings for my birthday that year they were £1700

Dont use limestone though or any reconstituted cement product without completely sealing it in clear G4 first.

Just out of interest - did you use the sealant , or mortar to attach the slate cladding to your filter house . I`m going to be retro-fitting some around my pond , soon , and wondering if I can get away without using mortar ??

Now that I can see the window forming - I want a bigger window.

Has anyone heard of using clear polycarbonate for Windows? I wonder if I can get a window made of this in a larger size

Lots of pro’s for acrylic like lighter than glass, stronger, cheaper, flexible however the biggest down side is it is prone to scratching not something you want, which will happen when cleaning algae.

Can you not use a soft sponge that won’t scratch?

I notice acrylic is less prone to scratching than polycarbonate so would rule out polycarbonate completely.

And can the scratches be easily buffed out?

I’m paying 950 quid for the glass one. If the Perspex was the same price I’d jump at it... but bloody hell 4000 quid is nuts

How do you know for sure your glass was strong enough though? That website says they take no responsibility for issues like that.

Doesn’t work out much cheaper basically an extra 80 quid to be guaranteed it won’t shatter when I fill the pond

In other news here’s my window wall going up
