    People’s thoughts on shower filters

I want to know what people think of shower filters who have used them? I have heard some mixed reviews recently that they drop the pond temp, and that they have to be taken off at winter. And another one I heard from two different people is they struggle to eradicate parasites fully with showers on the system. And another thing I wanted to ask is about media a lot of people who want to do it cheaply use alfagrog. But you also hear of these more expensive media’s people use. Do they all do the same ? Or are the more expensive ones worth the money? I have a diy shower in the shed that I haven’t yet used it’s full off alfagrog but was considering doing the top tray in pumice but had no feed back on the stuff so just wanted to see people’s views really. If alfagrog works il just stick it to all trays but I’m unsure what to do with the shower now due to what I have heard. Be good to see other people’s views

I can only share with you anecdotal evidence as I use a trickle shower in my QT system which is inside a greenhouse heated in winter. It uses alfagrog and has a nice green algae layer formed which must be feeding off nitrates. It works well as part of a complete filtration system of brush/matting/Aerobic K1 / anoxic baskets/aquaponic plants growing(but no UV in case of treatments)therefore I don’t know what performance it gives by itself
I am currently building a 3200 gallon pond & intend to throw everything at it with Drum filter combi aerobic K1/ UVs/Anoxic baskets/ aquaponic grow beds/sieve / eazy pod/. & home made bakki shower full of alfagrog.
The bakki shower will be insulated inside filter room & have low level return for winter.
I too will be interested in what people have experienced in practice.

my view is that showers are the best bio IF the water is clean, on my grow on i have an eazypod and a diy shower with crystal bio in, matured very fast but gets a little clogged so i dismantle and rinse it all in a bowl every 6-9 months. Main pond i have a drum and a 3 tier 1200mm shower full of midori media and that has been good but i squeezed a cpl boxes of lotus root in there and my nitrates have gone from 40 to 0 in 4 days! so i do belive the more expensive stuff is worth it, as for chilling the water, in my case it doesnt make too much difference, i do cover my outdoor pond in winter but last year the lowest it went was 8c and that was with about 15000 litres per hour over the shower
