Retro bottom drain
Looking for recommendations on a retro bottom drain, looking on eBay etc I’ve found a few that look pretty similar but would be good to hear from someone who’s had one they could recommend.
I’ll be piping it in 40mm/1.5” solvent weld so something that suits that size wise not 4”.
Also is it worth paying the extra for the aerated version? Or just add a diy air ring?
Thanks

Be interested to hear how you get on as I am going to be fitting a retro BD non aerated version as soon as I get my blanket weed problem sorted

Hopefully someone will be along to recommend one mate,I know most people on here have proper bottom drains installed so there maybe isn’t too many with experience of the retro fit one,I’m sure I’ve seen them mentioned on here before though. If I built a pond again I’d only fit a proper bottom drain but thats not a realistic option on this one

This is what I had in mind, possibly with a bulkhead fitting through pond wall so pipework isn’t on show over side of pond

Yes that's the same as someone else on here is doing.
I'm not sure whether to go hard pipe or flexi though.

Do you find the fish rub/knock up against the pipework between the drain and the pump?

That’s not actually my setup just a pic I found online and is the way I’m proposing to set one up,I’ve done a bit of research and a few people have brought up the same question but can’t find anything conclusive no one actually seems to have had fish damage themselves by catching on the pipework/drain but It’s Obviously possible but not something that really concerns me if I’m honest
