How To Remove Magnet on Oase ProfiClear Lid?
Hi Folks,
I have an Oase ProfiClear Compact M and would very much like to remove the magnet from the lid so that I can lay it on the connector within the filter which will allow me to remove the lid and still have the system running.
At present, whenever you take the lid off, the system detects that the magnets have parted and shuts off. Great safety feature - pain in the butt maintenance wise!
This is a new filter under warranty, so I don't want to do any damage to the fitting in case I have to make a warranty claim at some point. Trouble is, whilst I think it needs a 7mm socket - the area around the nut is too tight to get the socket to fit! Can't get needle nose pliers in there either
Has anyone got a ProfiClear that has been able to remove this magnet, or any general advise on how to undo these bolts without causing obvious damage?

What about a separate magnet that you can place over the sensor when the lid is off?

a 1/4" drive snap on socket might do it - they don't need much clearance.

I'm sure there will be someone at your local koi centre who has done something similar or got around the problem another way - some clever people out there

The magnet idea sounds worth a try.
See if a fridge magnet will do it then gradually work up from there.
For the nut you just need a thin walled socket as already stated, a 1/4" drive socket which is basically for light duty work will likely have a thin enough wall to fit.
Could be pricey getting a snap-on one though lol, they are expensive but last a lifetime. I remember paying £120 for a pair of snap on wire cutters back in 1993. I was only earning £35 a week lol, but boy were they worth it, I still use them at least once a fortnight and they still cut perfectly.

This got me thinking, and my addled brain finally remembered (yup - it has taken me this long!), that I did have magnets somewhere - Whiteboard Magnets!! So, after a good rummage around in the loft, I was finally able to test this idea (thanks @KevT), and it worked a treat. It required four magnets placed just so (took some careful moving around to find the sweet spot) and the error code vanished and I could run a wash cycle with the lid off. Thing is ... I now know why they've designed it to only wash with the lid on. Yes, those clever boffins at Oase knew they were selling a Koi Drum Filter and not a high pressure human shower.
So, if anyone is wondering - the force at which the water is sprayed onto the drum mesh in the ProfiClear is immensely high (way more than the Draco beforehand), and it goes EVERYWHERE without the lid on
I even tried placing a large chopping board over the spray bars during a clean; it helped a bit but the water still came out from all around the board and soaked me.
Anyway, it was a useful experiment and at least I can now run a lid-open-clean if I ever need to (ie if power shower in house breaks down), so thanks for your input on this one chaps.
BTW, one other adjustment I've now made to my lid is to remove the metal catch on the front so I can lift the lid to peak inside and check all is well ... which I do often because I'm paranoid

Very funny - feel a bit guilty now - hopefully it was a clean water shower - as you say there is a good reason why the thing is designed with a switch - to stop you getting wet
