Do I upgrade to an eazypod?

Hi guys, looking for some advice to whether or not an Eazypod would be an upgrade and sufficient for my 4000litre pond

I currently have a home made filter which is a 210l water butt, I then have a bin inside the Waterbutt which is suspected and filled with 25l of k1 media, so the water flows into the water butt, through the bottom of the bin, throaugh the media and out of the outlet, this then goes into a box filter full my sponges, course and fine.

My home made water butt filter does the job, but cleaning the k1 media is a nightmare and the thought of having the Eazypod which is self cleaning would be amazing

In my pond I have 9 reasonable sized koi.

My question is how good are the eazypods are polishing the water to get it crystal clear? Would it be a sufficient replacement to replace both my current filters?

A easy pod is good mechanical filter but very lacking in the bio as its fixed not knowing your pond set up its hard to say the best way to go but a easy pod with a barrel or water butt after it on the return of moving k1 will put the setup in the ball park of working like a Nexus. A pod by itself is not going to handle a koi pond of any size or with many fish. As to do they give crystal clear water if its running on k1 micro it will get most of the fines but its still going to want more help if you want tap clear water

Hi if you can stretch to it I’d go for a Nexus 200 series, much more bio capacity and will take the place of what you have. New version is the 220 but you can often find second hand previous versions that can be easily upgraded to the micro K1 eazy that the 220 has..I would’nt say any Nexus polishes the water, but great capable filters that are easy to maintain..

Its a 200 one of the early ones its came with the huge foam block then I had an Answer then binned it for the Easy Upgrade (no overflow). Its in good condition I added extra K1 and the Bio chips. The airlines need a bit of work they get brittle. I also have air pumps if wanted. Also has a lid

I would say £250.00 for the filter and £50 for the air pump.

Thanks for the offer on the 200 Dave, I decided to go out and buy a new Eazypod automatic today to replace my filter box and home made Waterbutt filter full of k1.

So far the unit looks good, time will tell what sort of job it does on the water, but in all honesty even if it's not perfect, if I never have to wash a sponge out again I'm a happy man.

How is the eazypod going? I no longer want to clean out the sponges ever again too!

Didn’t read this thread first time around- but having used an Eazypod (it’s now the filter on my quarantine tank)- it’s neither a good mechanical filter for ‘polishing’ the water as it lets fines through, nor a good bio filter as the media progressively blocks and is a small volume of static media so inadequate surface area for the job.

Its ok on a QT where you don’t particularly need good clarity, and where you have an extra bio filter to use too when there’s any significant stock in there. I converted mine to Micro K1, which does improve clarity but it then needs backwashing almost daily in summer which is a PITA if you don’t get a fully automatic setup. At some point I will probably replace it with a small drum on the QT as once you’ve got used to a drum on your main pond you feel much less inclined to put up with other options
