Smell from drum filter
Sorry to bother everyone again but is it normal to have a smell coming from drum filter ? my bottom drains seem to be pulling in a small amount of small granules/particles (look like Small seed heads Perhaps ?) - no more than a handful per day; which I Vacuum out of the dirty end daily. Someone suggested I add an air stone to the dirty side - anyone tried this with any success?

My waste chute drain smells.I assume its just the smell of the waste that sticks to the sides of the pipe.

If it's a bad smell have you checked for a dead frog/toad/bird in there etc?

Yes I‘ve been draining it down and cleanIng it out almost daily so would’ve spotted anything like that . Thinks it’s prob a combination of small leaves That are semi de composed but still making it thru and these infernal seed heads which the drum doesn’t seem to pick up very well . I’ll maybe try adding the air stone to the dirty side and see what happens

Have you got right up the far end of the waste chute?
All sorts of junk gets trapped in there, I have a brush with a long flexible handle I shove up there once in a while and drag out leaves and the odd koi log lol
They’re a bit of a crappy design really as the slope is too shallow, although now it seems newer drums have an extra spray nozzle in the end to flush this rubbish out.

Agreed.
@stevo8003 - see the video in this post:

Potentially, you could also try using a sludge-buster type product, to see if it causes any improvment in the smell you're experiencing (MicrobeLift or similar). I'm not egging you on to spend money on that type of product - I'm just saying it's one option available for you to consider.
Might help, or might not, but if it's a really rank smell, I wouldn't choose to ignore it, just in case there are nasty bacteria proliferating. Hopefully, it'll just be some trapped gunk on the waste side of the drum (unable to get back into the pond water, unless it's positioned as seen in the drum video I linked in the above post).
Please keep us all updated on what you find out.

Is the waste connected to the household sewer system?
If so its likely to be smells backing up from that.

Hi Steve what drum are you running and to other members do your drums have drain on dirty side as similar problem with crud build up on dirty side chamber. Am thinking of fitting drain to this part of drum as at present clearing with syphon hose not ideal ???

I’m using a Burton drum - had lots of probs initially but turned out to be the supplier who’d sold and fitted it . To Burtons credit they sent an engineer who sorted my issues .
