Thread: Pump position ?

    Pump position ?

Hi all, newbie here, I am in the process of upgrading/changing my pump and filter set up
Currently have a fish mate (unsure of capacity) with a bronze pump on the return to the pond
I have bought an All ponds solutions PFC 8000 and will couple it with one of these RAPID ECO HIGH POWER MARINE PUMP FISH POND PUMP OR SUBMERSIBLE WATER KOI PUMPS
Is this pairing OK and does the pump need to be on the flow into the filter, I assume so as the spin clear feature probably wont work properly
And in the instructions for the filter, it states that the filter needs to be at least 2m away from the pond edge
    TIA

    EDIT corrected info

Any ideas regarding the 2m distance
Also I would like to install the new filter and pump tomorrow, would I be better off leaving the water as it is (slightly murky) or cleaning the pond and changing the water before new set up is up and running
    Thanks again

    Hi Jonny,

Sorry I’m not sure I understand your question or objective here mate? I am also not too familiar with the All Pond product you mention although did have something similar a few years back for a while.

Can you explain in more detail or another way and I will do my best to assist.

    Cheers

Thanks gazkoi, I'll give it a try
I have a fibre glass pond of approx 1500l with around 18/20 small goldfish (some koi I think)
Current filter and pump set up always struggles through summer months (constantly murky)
I have bought the filter and pump listed in the first post and the filter instructions state that it should be more than 2m away from the pond
I can't get this distance, unless I sink the filter in the lawn
The pump position query in first post is sorted

    So my questions are
What is the reason for the new filter having to be at least 2m away
Is it better to leave the pond as it is (murky) just fit new pump/filter and let it do it's job, or
Clean pond and change water before fitting new pump and filter
Hope I've got it across a bit better, I'm crap at explaining though text

    Hi mate,

sorry for the the delayed reply.

Im not sure in all honesty why 2m distance - maybe there is a helpline in the instructions that may answer the question for you?

In respect of the green water - if the parameters are ok then this will not harm the fish - in-fact they prefer it...

Again if the water parameters (NH, PH, nitrite and KH) are ok I would not change it and wait for the new filter to ‘kick-in’.. hopefully they will suffice, however I have my doubts as to how well some of these work at tines.

Hope that helps a little mate.

    Cheers
