Bakki shower and pump
Hi all, How fast a flow should my pump be going? I've 1000G it's going through a pressure filter then my shower. How fast should the water of the pond be turned over. I can turn pump up and down if required. Thanks in advance.

Water turnover rates are an area for debate..
Some say once every 2 hours minimum
I have a 5000 gallon pond and im turning over my water every 30 minutes.
Its basically what works for you and your pond.
Your filter will have written on it somewhere the max flow rate but i wouldnt get too close to that flow rate as the water may go through the filter too quick for your filter to work.
If it says flow rate of 10000 lph then go somewhere around 8000 lph
Also as a little bit of advice a pressure is not the best filter for koi .
They just cant handle the amount of muck a koi produces, so somewhere down the line i would look to replace it with a more koi suited filter5000 Gallon Fibreglassed Pond With 54" x 27" Infinity Window

Good advice from an dy lol. Agree on pressure filter. All right at the start and once fish grow. Then you get the problems.
I always looked at a turnover 1 hour. But like andy. In the last couple of weeks. 30 to 40 minutes. Because of shower

Depends also on the size of your shower and the manifold diameter.
are you running ceramic media?
the pressure filter will probably limit have limited flow Depending on the bore of the pipe and filter size.
Even running it as a trickle tower would give you more bio mass though and as you get more into you could upgrade the pressure filter.

Yeah I'm limited by the shower. I've got 21kg of alpha and pummice in it. My pump is running at about 4000l/h if I turn it up anymore the shower overflows. I think this is also restricting how much waste it pulls in as it doesn't seem to pull a lot through. I've turned to suck just from bottom to see if this makes a difference.
Thanks

If you take some media out you may be able to turn it up and have better flow.
If you reduce the media and increase flow you may still get a better result than having it stacked with reduced flow
you don’t want hi flow over pumice it will just break up.
if you post some pictures people may be able to help more.

I have filter matting on top of each box to help reduce the pummice being broken up. I've just drilled the outlet holes larger smand turned to pump and touch wood not over flowing yet!

This is shower. Turned pump back to suck in from allover.
Which other filter would u recommend to step up to in place of our pressure filter. Space is an issue and we dont have a bottom drain

I guess ideally you would want a small nexus if you had the space, they come up at a good price second hand. An eazy pod would do but the small 220 is future proofing really and a better filter.
run 1.5 pipe all the way through, 2” would be better but you would have to change the pump as well.
if you increased the hole size in your shower you should also get more flow through.
You could later add a skimmer and put the pressure filter on there with a bigger uv.
there will be others that will comment and help too there are quite a few options just depends how much you want to spend, just do a bit at a time i still have a list of things I want to do on my pond.
looks like you have made a good start pond looks nice and tidy

If I were to go down the nexus route running it from the pump in the pond, would the nexus have to be raised to pond height for the outlet flow to go back into the pond?

The water height in the filter needs to be about the water height in the pond.
When I was doing work on my pond I had it pump fed I took the pipe out of the outlet and then back up and over the pond wall it worked fine.

Thanks Sim, I'm now thinking I may have a twin inlet pump so I can run 2 bakki showers. In my head this works ok but would it?
Cheers

Nice one your thinking on the right lines now. Great advice from sim. Nexus 220 all the way lol. The only thing
I would add. Is can t you fit a retro bottom drain in. It would vastly improve things lol.
Draco do a gravity bottom drain. Saves all your crap getting mashed up. By a pump in the pond lol. So helps with fines. As you can add a dry pump.
