Sounds like you need a solenoid valve with a timer of some kind.
Just need to know what size pipe work you require to fit it onto a solenoid valve then onto a water supply.
Another option would be a ball cock valve to deal with the water flow height and a watering timer if you can get one that will let you run for long enough.
I remember seeing a proper electronic system a while ago just don't remember where just that it was very expensive.

Hi frim
hope all s good with you
I would really like to hard plumb in 15mm pipework, wasn’t sure what I need do. Can I just have a motorised valve, stick a plug on it and then plug that into a timer?

Not too bad thanks, yourself?
That's what the solenoid option was going to be hard piped or pipped I could ask a plumber I know if the motorised valve would work like that as it is the perfect fit for the pipe work you want to use and adding a timer would be a easy option. The only thing I have doubts about which obviously not being a plumber I don't know for sure is can the motorised valve be powered like you are suggesting for that length of time? I'll get back to you on that one OK.

I'm guessing that you are going to use some kind of float device like a ball cock to stop your pond overflowing or are you just going for a trickle in and trickle out set up?
I've asked the plumber I know about the motorised valve but haven't heard back yet but just wanted to know the answer to the question above?

OK I've got an answer for you Sim.
Yes you can use a motorised valve to control your top up but if you try to run it all day without stopping it you will burn it out. My suggestion to him was, what if you run it for 30 minutes then stop it for 5 minutes which he said should work. So not sure it's the answer you wanted but it's an answer lol

I’m pretty sure that one of these type of things is a simple solution
There’s loads of different types from cheap to expensive

I did have a quick look last night for other options and found you can get a mains powered solenoid for very reasonable money which you could easily stick a digital timer on. If I can find the link again I'll stick it on here as I was using my phone at the time and it is difficult to add external links on that for some reason

I was thinking something like this maybe?
https://www.bes.co.uk/directly-activ...alve-1-2-9697/
It looks like you can replace the magnet if it ever goes wrong and is compatible with 1/2" BSP fittings so a 1/2" 15mm male thread JG speed fit fitting each side is all you'd need to connect the water to it. Then you just need a digital timer to run it.
Something like this would do -

Then you just need a lead with a plug on the end to plug it into your timer. I'm sure most people have an old faulty or unused electrical item with a plug on they can cut off and use
