    Probably Been Done Before

    Hi All
Got my inspiration from a previous thread by AJM (Filter Socks) which got me thinking how can i incorporate this idea in my set up

Firstly my set is 2200 Gallon Half Sleeper pond , pump fed from an aerated retro fitted bottom drain from an 1800 jebo vari pump through a TMC 55W UV into my Nexus 300 Then return to pond via a jap matting and filter wool sandwich
    image0.jpeg

So my idea i came up with was to use my inlet slide plate. At first i thought of putting a 4inch pipe in it but with second thoughts i put 2 2 1/2 inch holes in it like this so i could use 2 socks instead of 1
    IMG_3347.jpgIMG_3348.jpg
once in place i sealed with CT1
    IMG_3349.jpg
Following AJM idea i ordered two filter socks
    IMG_3342.jpg
When they arrived i fitted them to the slide plate and secured with jubilee clips. My problem here was there just not big enough they needed cleaning every half hour at first then it was about every hour . So back to the drawing board and search the Internet.
Then i found these on Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=Operand...ref=nb_sb_noss
    IMG_3343.jpg
Did exactly the same and fitted to slide plate with jubilee clips fingers crossed i put into Nexus well after 2 hours they needed cleaning but i did notice the bottom bag wasn't getting fully inflated as i thought it would because the top bag took most of the space and was pushing the bag in the opposite direction so a sudden brainwave i thought of this
    IMG_3350.jpg
Then secured the bags back and crossed my fingers
    IMG_3353.jpgIMG_3351.jpgIMG_3344.jpg
Well nearly 8 1/2 later the bags needed the there first clean
    IMG_3346.jpgIMG_3345.jpg
After cleaning the bags out which only takes minutes this is what came out
    IMG_3354.jpg
    The quest Continues
Will update with underwater video in a day or two to see if there's any difference with fines

As the title suggests this has probably already been done but i thought i'd share my experience

    Cheers Colin

    I have done something similar.

I have a 400 micron filter sock on the outlet of my pump fed Eazy Pod and have made a basic overflow / bypass system. It works quite well and I just remove the sock fit a cleaned one and jobs a good'en. Just keep swapping and cleaning the 2 socks every 2 to 4 days at the moment.

I have found the best way to clean the socks is put them on the end of a 2" pipe and just hose them off then leave the cleaned one to dry while the other one is removing the muck from the pond.

I'm going to be using the evolution answer in a settlement chamber. And that has a 150 micron screen.
But not sure which way to go after that. It will be ( dare I say it ) either a multi bay with brushes, jap mat and moving k1 micro. Or an anoxic filter.
If I'm using the multibay I might do away with the brushes and use a 100 micron filter sock. And then a 50 micron sock after the jap mat.

But if I'm going down the anoxic route. I'll need some way of catching the fines before it goes into the bio stage.
Not sure yet. Just going to juggle the things I have around till I decide which way I'm going to go

That's a great solution Colin, looks really good.

Even though you've disrupted the "vortex" type flow around the nexus with the 90 degree elbow, it doesn't matter because the socks will collect the heavy stuff anyway.

Would be interested in an update after a month or so to see how things went over the longer term.

I was a bit worried about fitting a filter sock to the gravity return of the Eazy Pod so had to include an overflow / bypass to it as well. So far the overflow has never been required but the bypass has been used a few times when adding treatments.

Really easy to clean so far i found the best way to clean them is to use a hose pipe spray inside all the muck goes to the bottom then turn the bag inside out and spray from inside the bag and all the stuff comes out . takes a couple of minutes to do both bags . Luckily i have a man hole cover in the garden so just open that up and spray

I was going with the hosing down then turn inside out and hose again but found it worked best or quickest just using something to hold the sides apart (2" or 2.5") pipe and then just set the hose to a thin fan pattern and blast the outside of the sock. Just need to move the sock side to side on the pipe and respray.

I was originally turning the socks inside out and just spraying the inside of them to blast the muck off. I did find it was a bit of a messy process and that's why I just spray from the outside inwards now.

Didn't notice the link. Do they look like a big mitten with no thumb? If so that is probably the right thing.

The ones I have are a white nylon material with a drawstring on the open end. I just went on Ebay and looked for filter socks.

Mine have a much bigger opening than I need so just use a jubilee clips off a 3" or 4" flexi rubber boot fitting to hold it in place.

I might give the 200s a try as my 400s are OK but I could definitely improve on the clarity
