Well if it works for you then go for it.
It's a good job they aren't made from something wool based or if you washed them on a hot wash they would shrink faster than my bank balance is at the moment

Hi all here's an update after two days running
Firstly i cut the inlet slide down just incase of overflow
Before IMG_3345.jpg
After IMG_3372.jpg
Which i deliberately let overflow and works very well.
I didn't need to take out the filter wool as that is still flowing well with no resistant's but i did just to compare it with before
Today after 2 days running

Before- After 24hrs and need cleaning

If you follow the 2 links you can compare the two videos i posted on youtube let me know you thoughts

What would be the lowest size micron needed to clear all fines ?
The evolution aqua answer I will be using has a 150 micron screen. I was going to use a 100 micron sock after it. And then a 50 micron sock further along the filter system. Is it necessary to go down to 50 micron ??

The 400s I've got are a bit over sized as they are fitted over the outlet of a 3" slide valve and still partially overlap so I'm guessing they are probably 7" or 8" diameter. They look massive on my pond lol

I think your best option would be go for a 100 micron first and see what happens and how quickly it blocks and go from there as my 400s sometimes get very dirty in 2 days and sometimes can last nearly a week. I've not yet seen either of my 400s block and force water up and through the over flow yet so that's why I am going to try some 200s next and see how quickly they need changing. I only use one at a time and just swap them over as they start to look too dirty, then just hose off the dirty one and leave it to dry ready for the next swap and clean.
I'm only using a pump fed system with basic filtration but would think if the Answer is what I think it is as in some version of a drum them your water should be fairly clear and the finer sock after it is just for a fine polish of your water?
As for going down to a 50 micron, I don't know and even with the 100 micron you might want to fit an overflow of some kind in case the sock blocks and you get water coming out of somewhere you don't want it to?

Thanks for the reply. I think it's going to be a case of suck it and see. I don't think the system will be over worked at first as I only want to get young koi and kind of like the idea that to some degree it's a surprise how they will turn out when mature.
But yes like you suggested. With the ea answer having a 150 micron mesh. I think ill just see how a 100 micron sock goes with an overflow of some type . See how quickly it gets dirty. And check how clear the water is.
Might not be any need to go down to 50 microns
Thanks again

Not sure if my overflow would work on your system but basically all I did was this -
On the outlet of my pump fed Eazy Pod I put a 3" T with the spur off outlet of the T pointing 45 degrees upwards so in normal use the water flows through the T and out into the pond through the filter sock.
I then fitted a 3" slide valve on the outlet of the T which I then use a jubilee clip to hold the filter sock onto the outgoing side of the slide valve so the valve can be used as a bypass if required.
The spur of the T was a bit noisy when left open so I just added a 45 degree bend and then a 90 degree flexi rubber boot elbow then a collection of reducers and pipe work which act a bit like a silencer.
None of it is glued just used various flexi rubber boot fittings to make water tight what I thought needed to be or to stop things falling apart.
OK it's not the best looking thing in the world and I intend to do a few alterations to it as soon as funds allow but it does exactly what I wanted it to do which is the main thing and if I even need to add any treatments or what ever to the pond and I think the sock could remove it I just shut the slide valve and the water goes through the overflow, which so far hasn't caused the Eazy Pod to over flow

I've got a feeling I put some photos of the overflow system on here some where so if I find them I'll stick a link on here for you
