    JBR Aerated Bottom Drain

    Hi,

Can anyone tell me what the gap should be between the floor and the underside of the aerated plate? I.e. the gap which the water flows through to go down the bottom drain.

    Thanks.

    Cavester,

Small enough to stop the fish swimming in. Mine is 20-25mm though. Didnt stop a goldfish swimming into it. I found it alive in the filter!

    Hi mate,

Im not sure what the gap size is, however I’ve never had an issue with mine.

If you ask JBR they will tell you mate - in my experience of dealing with them they have always been really helpful.

    Cheers

Hi Cavester. I recall there was some discussion about this on Feline's pond build a while back. Might be worth a read.

From memory, for a 4" pipe I recall someone worked it out that it should be no less than around 13mm.

So i think anything above that amount, that doesn't suck small fish in should be fine.

I think I went for a 20mm gap on mine and seems to work fine.

20mm is what I'll aim for then, thanks guys. Its just because I'm getting 25mm of PIR insulating on the floor before glassing so wanted to know what the gap should be.

    Cheers.

I wouldn't set the final height until the glassing is done as they will glass into your bottom drain, which will reduce the gap, I was advised not to insulate right up to the drain, this was the drawing I did at the time, not sure if it helps
