What’s your favourite Koi product and why?

So what’s your favourite piece of koi / pond equipment and why?

With so many things to choose from I think it’s simplicity that rules for me. My vote is the Koi sock simple, effective and stops me looking like a clown juggling koi into bowls and bags for customers.

Really looking forward to the responses pm

This is a great question and really got me thinking.....

As punters we don't use Koi socks like Dealers do so probably don't appreciate the benefits.

    1) Drum filters - Amazing crystal clear water and no maintenance. Who'd have thought this would be even remotely possible 20 years ago when cleaning filters could take the best part of a day.

    2) Pan nets. This is the simplicity answer. Don't know how long they've been around for but catching fish with traditional nets can be hard work and risk injury. With a pan net you can guide fish straight into a bowl without them even touching the net.

    Cheers Charco

Personally K1 but the heck out of me. The amount of times the stuff has escaped and got everywhere is almost funny. It’s a bit of a joke locally as to my dislike of it BUT I absolutely agree a quality media (it’s just like trying to contain some Londoners during lockdown)

The koi sock was an interesting comment. I forget how much I rely on these compared to when this was a hobby only.

It always makes me smile when customers are impressed with it when I use it in front of them.

Not windows, 1,000 of years focussed breeding to get a fish that’s perfect from the top then you start staring at its sides

I agree with you mate, however the benefit of being able to see all aspects of the koi and identify issues has to be a life saver for many. However mastering the art of sitting on your hands is a lot more difficult at times

Been lots of good options here.

For me as a new koi keeper I would have to say that this forum has been the best addition. Not a product I know but the advise, guidance and relationships formed has been invaluable.

At this early stage in the hobby I would say that the water test kits are top of my list as a product.

While all of the other products mentioned are great, they just make things easier. the water test make the invisible visible and enables informed choices.
