    Nitrate

Have always struggled with nitrates since the pond went in 18 months ago. I originally ran a sieve and EB60 bead filter but as i was struggling I added a shower with 40 litres of CSM which I hoped would help.

The pond is 12k litres and I don’t feed heavily. Been doing 10% water changes for the last few weeks but did neglect over the winter. Not heated and low sticking levels

    Any suggestions???

Tap water comes out high but does lower when going through the dechlorinator slowly

    Hi,

What does KH N/A mean please?

Personally high nitrate gets me less concerned than other readings being high. WC will assist but too much can be detrimental to the pond maturity and cycle.

Plants can assist in removing nitrates of this remains a high reading. How are the koi??

I added 20 drops to get it to change and the chart only goes to 12 drops so it is really high

    What is WC?

Koi are ok but have parasite issues which you had advised on. I had hoped with adding more media with the shower it would be good. I have limited space now so cannot add anymore equipment really.

It might be that I added the shower late in the year 2019 so maybe didn’t get a chance to develop good bacteria build up which will hopefully start when it warms up

Thanks for your advice, might grab some filter starter and give the bead and shower and good kick when it warms up and after I have treated for tric.

Agree with gaz. Plants help with nitrates.
I had a top pond built with my rebuild for that reason plants. Get some floating plants. That would help. Also my pond took 2 years to fully mature properly.
I had all sorts of filter starts and bombs
    Snake oil in my eyes.
But that is only my opinion on them
Sound like your shower has nt had enough time to mature yet. With winter when installed

Opinions and experiences will always vary with some of these products. Personally I use some bacterial products as I do think they help.

Undeniably filters are impacted after treatments, so every little helps to bring it back.

As with all things done are better than others and expectations should always be realistic as to what they will achieve. There is of course a lot in the pond that needs to mature (not just the media).

the warmer the water and the more prepared you are to ‘sit on your hands’ during ‘spikes’ will determine how quickly the ammonia will cycle.

Salt always help protect koi against brown blood disease when nitrites are high...

    Cheers
