    K1 media

Hey guys hope is well! Havenít been on here for a while work been a bit hectic! So todayís question is, the pond build is happening in just over a month so thought Iíd have a little think about my new k1 I got! Never used it before but heard it can take months to start to mature, is there anyway I can do anything now. Iím assuming as itís new it doesnít have to be cleaned or does it? Can someone spread more light on why people pp new k1 before ... something to do with taking the surface layer off? (I may be wrong with this) and lastly I watched a video online of a guy who ran his media in a tub with a air stone etc... but that was it, it wasnít connected to the pond in anyway basically just on its own bubbling away? Donít no if this does anything by speeding up the process as I would have thought it needs the fish poop to get the cycle going? Thanks K1 mediaK1 media

Pp is used to take a layer off the k1 to allow the bacteria to start growing quicker as I understand it mate if the pond build is in a month could you not start with ammoia and k1 in a water butt Fishless cycling

Read Mankeís stuff on fishless cycling.
You can mature it by ďfeedingĒ it ammonia and bicarbonate of soda.
You PP it to take the oily coating off and it will roll quicker however, I didnít bother and it was fine in a few days.

Nice one in that case I wonít bother with the pp but I will look into this fish less cycling. Slightly confused how to add amonia though if there are no fish? But il have a read so it explains it! Cheers mate !
