K1 media
Hey guys hope is well! Haven’t been on here for a while work been a bit hectic! So today’s question is, the pond build is happening in just over a month so thought I’d have a little think about my new k1 I got! Never used it before but heard it can take months to start to mature, is there anyway I can do anything now. I’m assuming as it’s new it doesn’t have to be cleaned or does it? Can someone spread more light on why people pp new k1 before ... something to do with taking the surface layer off? (I may be wrong with this) and lastly I watched a video online of a guy who ran his media in a tub with a air stone etc... but that was it, it wasn’t connected to the pond in anyway basically just on its own bubbling away? Don’t no if this does anything by speeding up the process as I would have thought it needs the fish poop to get the cycle going? Thanks

Pp is used to take a layer off the k1 to allow the bacteria to start growing quicker as I understand it mate if the pond build is in a month could you not start with ammoia and k1 in a water butt Fishless cycling

Read Manke’s stuff on fishless cycling.
You can mature it by “feeding” it ammonia and bicarbonate of soda.
You PP it to take the oily coating off and it will roll quicker however, I didn’t bother and it was fine in a few days.
