Iím looking at getting this one from my local Homebase, is round the corner and assuming in stock so I can get this fishless set up sorted tomorrow on my day off. Iím asuming this one is fine itís 9.5 percent amonia which is the same as that Kleen Off one as shown in the pic! Does it matter in brand or anything to look out for????? Cheers guys

Yep that’s right. 9.5 % seems to be the norm for this household ammonia, providing it’s not got any other additives it’s perfect for fish less cycling. I’ve used ammoniai for fish tanks and ponds, works well but you need to be on top of your daily water testing to know when to add more etc..

What am I looking for in the water tests ? That amonia is present for the bacteria to eat off??? Apologise if this is listed in sanke website I been so busy havenít sat down and read it properly yet. Just at work at the moment il read properly when I get back. Thanks again !

Hi, plenty of info on web how to do, same process as with fish tanks:

    https://www.fishlore.com/aquariumfis...s-cycle.19627/

Basically you add Ammonia, until bacteria reduces the NH3 after a few days, the add again etc over a couple of weeks the your N02 appears, and will reduce over time..if you read the above, plus others you’ll get the idea I’m sure. It works and quite satisfying to watch! Good luck!

So am I wasting my time ....
I tested the temp on the fishless cycling k1 and it was at 7c.... it was a cold night last night I must say... the tubs are in the shed as thatís where the aerator is (I did consider bringing indoors but the noise would drive me mad. I thought about buying sum cheap aquarium heaters but then thought it was getting abit silly. So am I wasting my time if the temps are that low. Or shall I persist and just give the bacteria more time to grow! I will keep going with it anyway but just after peopleís views really.... I know some of you guys run your filters all year round and have pond temps around 8c.... cheers guys

i have never done fish cycling charles. but pond water parameters on my pond are spot on. so i think the bio has still kept going as i am feeding one big feed a day
and they have nt altered. so that tells me its still working in this weather, my temps have been averaging between 8c and 9.5c. so I believe its still ticking over. as my ammonia and nitrite would be showing if it was not working,
e mail manky sanky. he is a expert on it.

Hi I agree, I think existing bio film will be working, albeit at a lesser rate if there is fish waste/ammonia for them to consume. If we dumped in loads of food and ammonia increased, then at these temps it would struggle to cope, but low waste matches slow bacteria in our unheated ponds..
However starting from fresh/fishless cycling and trying to get the bacteria to start from scratch in these temperatures will take a lot more time..but I still think the process will start/develop. How long I couldn't say, but if it was me I would persevere, if you have the patience. As Fred mentions perhaps Manky can comment as he's more the expert than me too..!
