Cool Ki media or look a like?

Hi All, I have decided to put a moving bed next to my newly ordered Qase proficlear premium Compact M I am looking forward to see how it goes, great I hope. Should I buy K1 or are the look a like mediums up-to the same job. I am using a 600 L BTC Tank for my moving bed my pond is 11100 L is a formula available to work out how much Ki or similar media I need to put in the BTC tank

    Thanks
    Jazz

You want somewhere between 40% and 60% of the chamber to be full of K1.

I was advised to use Hel-X so I got 100 litres in my moving bed filter, this website has a good sale on Hel-X too.

I was just wondering what sort of air pump do you need for 100 litre moving bed.

I have half and half of media. Helx and k1
In my nexus 320. 320lts worth . And I bought a new pump jecod pa - 100. And for the price which is cheap. Great pump. And a hell of a lot more powerful then I thought it would be. And that moves my media of 320 lts.

Ive got 300 litres of media on my nexus 320, 225 litres K1 and 75litres bio chips. Air pump is Evolution Aqua 150. Wouldn’t buy another EA as I think they are over priced and noisy. I also have a jecod air pump like Fred, and definitely better value.

My ea 150 cost a bomb compared to this pump. And the spare parts or a new diaphram cost as much as my new pump.
RIP off. EA. It only lasted me 3 years. I binned it in the end. And as you say mate
Jacob pump is a hell of a lot quite.

What's these bio chips look like. And have you got a picture of one. Also how much do they cost. Hope your good scamp.
Oh and a happy new year bud.

I have some white discs mixed in with mine just how it came not sure if they are any good but we ll see. I have a 70 ea and i hate it needs ripping apart and rebuilding but don't think I'll bother tbf gets really noisy but a gentle tap in the shape of a size 9 sorts it out haha

Fred, the white plastic discs (or green) are from either Mutag, Kaldness or Biochip.
All pretty much of a muchness but usually rather more expensive than K1.
eBay or Absolute flog them as do probably all the other dealers if you asked them.
I had a load of Mutag from Germany at one time but it didn’t “roll” very well in a MB and got sucked up one end all the time.

Oase have a new media coming out, they were showing it off at the national’s in there moving bed. It looked a bit like quavers maybe worth a look.
i live in a hard water area and the media sinks after a while with calcium, hel-x seems worst than k1 for this so I was quite interested in this new media.

They are EA biochips.EA claimed that different bacteria grew on them The original biochips were black but had a bit of a design flaw in that they sank..

They’ve more than likely been developed for use in waste water treatment plants which is what most of the stuff comes from originally.
All the information is available for reading on Wiki.
