Thread: What shower..

    What shower..

Was hoping to get some advise on what showers are rated and what media to add.

I currently am only running a EA easy pod that has a 10k ltr max flow rate. I have learned that the bio capabilities of the pod are not sufficient for my pond but this will preform good enough mechanical.

My pond capacity is c. 7,500 litres

So I am looking for a shower that will run well at <10,000 lph and provide me with the best bio possible. I have seen BHM seems highly rated but is also pricey, happy to consider this if this is the best available.

Are the plastic ones going to stand up to the years or should I invest in SS.

    Thanks in advance

Kinda depends how deep your pockets are lol
Stainless/BHM is rolls Royce. Will probably later forever.
The plastic ones from Evolve or JBR are decent and will probably last just fine. Reasonably priced (see eBay)
Plenty of alternative ceramic media around to meet a lower budget. They’ll all do the same thing.
If funds are right then make one from UV stable plastic stacking crates and fill with alfagrog.
Pump plenty of water over it and bins a goodun
There’s (was?) a massive shower and BHM in the for sale section but think that might be overkill for your pond but you know the old saying, you can never have too much filtration lol

    What shower..

Thanks for info.. kinda confirmed what I thought.

I think what I am going to do is add a addition to the side of the pond only 2 foot deep and then fill that with anoxic baskets and plants, a small shower into this. Then waterfall into the main pond. Should keep the shower out of eyes view (not the most attractive items)

A member from a while back, Brian has a brilliant anoxic section, the thread was epic but I think all the photos have since disappeared although from memory they may be on Dr Novak’s site.
Link on Manke’s site I expect

Your right it’s a great build! Has given me some inspiration.

How has he set the flag stones to timber? This is one thing I regretted by using sleepers to raise the pond. I would much rather use stone on top rather than Tiber capping. If anyone knows how please share! What shower..

Could be talking out my arse but could you get some of the beading used for plastering but the flat stuff screw it down then a mortar mix so the mortar has some it to key to

    What shower..

    Morning all

Thanks amj. I did think at the time about some kind of gripfill I was just not sure how long it would last and if it would leach and be toxic. You are correct with the stainless mesh option, this is how timber is rendered but what concerns me about that is the risk of dropping cement into the pond and leaching. I have read that you should seal cement with g4.

Can anyone advise on the use of a gripfill/ pink stuff?

    Thanks
    Mike

    You can’t anymore. Use “Aquabasis”
    Does the same thing.

Do you have any kingspan of polystyrene sheets that you've used for insulation? Could float that under where you are working to catch any drops. Stick with pink grip then goldseal or similar in water edge?
