Think that would work great Aj,and as Bcc says would look great in the summer fully planted.
Bit late now for plants I think but you could do the baskets.

I doubted the first test also so did it again, same result.
We did have torrential rain overnight. I’m unclear if that would have skewed the results.

Pic of mine in the top of the shower, roots dont go too deep and I believe it is good for nitrates.

Think the recommended baskets is 1 per Koi.

You could get 10 large baskets in a row, then maybe 8-12 small baskets on top depending on how you stack them.

Then put some small plants in the top row, and some longer plants in between coming from the bottom baskets.

Plants aren't a requisite for success though.

    Yes that's the correct guideline.

Brian had quite a nice-sized anoxic chamber (50 baskets for 29 fish, although I don't accurately know what size the fish were):

Interesting today, the phosphate tests are on the right, the furthermost right being straight out of my kitchen tap being a tad darker.

That's a great result mate, and funny you should post this as I've literally just tested mine again too.

The Nitrates have gone back up to 20 mg/l. Still much lower than the 18 Month average, but have no idea why its gone back up. It was 0 mg/l on 26th Sept, 5 mg/l on 29th Sept after a huge water change, and now, 3rd October its 20 mg/l.

    Phosphates are still 1 mg/l.

I think the Phosphate colours are hard to read on my API kit which are much lighter shades than yours, but the colour in your vials is similar to mine. The 5 ppm one on my colour chart is turquoise, the 0.25 is cream coloured and the 0.5 and 1 are almost identical.

The baskets MUST be working to have got the previous 0 and 5 mg/l readings as I've never had readings this low before, so am lost to explain why they're now 20 mg/l on 2 test kits.

Edit: Admittedly the flow through the Anoxic section isn't particularly fast - maybe around 3000 lph as I split the flow between the anoxic return and the main pond return so as to keep a decent current in the pond. Pond is 12,000 litres and with cooler temps I've turned pump down to approx. 9000 lph. I'd have still thought 3000 lph would be enough to maintain a sub 10 ppm nitrate reading.

I’d say phosphate is 1, maybe 2 out of the tap.
I’ve no idea if that’s unusual or not...will post a bit more later, the new beast has just arrived so going out for a spin Anoxic Filtration - So Shocked I Nearly Burnt my DinnerAnoxic Filtration - So Shocked I Nearly Burnt my DinnerAnoxic Filtration - So Shocked I Nearly Burnt my Dinner

Sadly my Nitrate level has now gone back up to the 18 Month average of 40 mg/l.

    26th September = 0 mg/l (confirmed on 2 different test kits).
30th September = 5 mg/l (confirmed on 2 different kits, one of which was a different one again to the one used above).
    3rd October = 20 mg/l (2 different test kits)
8th October = 40 mg/l (The 1 test kit that was used on all the above tests).

So something has gone wrong. Pump flow through the Anoxic chamber is approximately 3000 lph.

Only other change is temperature which has dropped from 17C on 26th September to a low of 13.5C today.

And rainfall, there's been a lot of it, maybe 500 - 1000 litres.

No water changes have been carried out since the day I installed the Anoxic Section, but I'll be doing a 12% change tomorrow.

Phosphate reading has remained at 1 mg/l throughout.

There's nothing really that I can do to change anything, except leave it and wait and see.

My nitrate is up and down like a fiddlers elbow. 0 one day, 20 the next, then back to 0.
Avoiding changing water now unless the ammonia rises, it’s been sitting at 0 for quite some time now.

A novices question here, but has an anoxic filter got the capacity to be a sole filtration system?
If yes it'll be a much cheaper way to run a pond.

Yes Tom, if you read my article, you will see that Kevin Novak designed anoxic filtration to be the only form of biological filtration rather than adding a few baskets as a handy "add on" to an existing conventional system.

Is a brownish algae starting to coat stuff an expected part of the the cycling process?
Haven’t got nitrate off the scale by any stretch.

    Great readings mate.

Just got back from 17 days away and very pleased to report that my Nitrate levels are back down to 2.5 mg/l.

It seems interesting that both BCC and myself had massive reduction in nitrates on initial maturation, followed a week later by a large spike which then fizzled away.

I do however have an ammonia spike right now, possibly because whilst away the Koi were only fed a tiny amount every 2nd or 3rd day by a visiting relative, and I came home and gave 3 large feeds in 12 hours.

If the nitrate levels now creep up with increased feeding, and continue to do so by next spring, the solution is obvious - a few more baskets, for which there remains plenty of room to add.

A phosphate reading remains, albeit lower than that contained within the tap water supply.

Without doubt the Anoxic is working and I look forward to gradually removing K1 from the Nexus next Spring which will reduce electricity costs for the air pump or allow more air to go directly to the pond for increased stocking levels.

Nitrate levels are starting to creep back up what with increased feeding since being back from hols.

Don't know if due to cooler temps = slower maturation, or if not enough baskets, or if out of balance against the nitrate producing moving bed bio chamber which is still running alongside the anoxic.

Not done a single water change in 4 weeks, all Koi are happy and healthy. Will do a small water change tomorrow as PH (8.1 against a normal 8.2) and KH (7 against a normal 10) have dropped very slightly, probably due to the excessive rain.

    Still early days, but.....

Average Nitrate over 2 years worth of readings prior to anoxic installation = 34.85 mg/l

Average Nitrate over 2 Months worth of readings since anoxic installation = 11.25 mg/l

Overall sounds good Rs maybe take some time to kick in so to speak or as you say a few more baskets.
