    Question Burton drum

    Hi,

i took a good good look at the Burton drum at the recent Crouch Valley show at BHN garden centre. Spoke at length with Mark and I was pretty impressed with their larger drum which is fed from both ends with the clean outputs at the side. The cleaning process also includes two jets on the waste shoot to keep that clear. Control box looks good and they can also fit UV,s in the drum and demonstrated that the rubber seal is external to where the uv light is to prevent breakdown. Theyíre British made too!

ive done a search online and only found one reference to an issue with the cleaning pump from a good few years back.

so Iím wondering if any members on here run Burton drums? Can you share youíre experience? Trying to work out if nobody is buying them for some reason or if they are all faultless and no-one has had cause to complain?

    thanks

I think Evolve are using Burtons in their filters now instead of (option?) Draco.
There was a chap on here a couple of weeks ago having an issue with a Burtons drum IIRC but think he got it resolved pretty quickly.

    Found it thanks Andi.

BGC, yes I think it’s partly down to the “through” design. 3 Inlets at both ends and 2 clean outs either side giving a total of 6 in and 4 out.

since I need to filter 60k litres I’m trying to save on buying 2 drums if I can and this looks viable. They also have a 100k version!

    Hi GB,

I have had an Evolve 4000 combi running since early June on a new pond, Burton drum, to date no issues to report, very pleased with the filter and level of filtration, Amalgam UV, clarity is excellent, drum screen seems to remove fines very well, early days of course and only 6 fish in over 2000 gallons, running 20000 and 10000 EA Vari pumps moving around 13000 litres per hour. thanks Steve.

I'm not passing judgement one way or the other; just found an old thread that may be relevant - make of it whatever you will (and bear in mind the drum may have evolved for the better since then):

    https://www.koiforum.uk/water-treatm...-500-drum.html

One thing I will say, though, is I'm not at all impressed with the absurdly sparse information about the drums on the website - do they really think that's enough information upon which to base a two and a half grand purchasing decision? It's not as though there aren't plenty of competing drums vying for the same customers:

Thanks for that thread link. Seems that both this guy and the more recent one both have issues with the drive shaft spindle.

On the plus side, their customer service does seem to be very good and thus far, only two posts in the history of this forum with issues reported on these drums and one on this thread that state no issues thus far. Not really enough to form a consensus.

Has anyone any views on the quantity of bad feedback for any other drums?

Hi i've had a BD 150 Combi Drum for the past few months, to be honest I seen a couple running at Elite Koi and they looked fine.

I have had a few issues with mine but hopefully got them sorted out now apart from the float switch which doesn't always work.
