Weird shell like material in pond
Hi All,
Recently taken an interest in my parents pond after moving back in.
Noticed there were black bits in the water and upon investigation, it appears to be some sort of creature shell however I may be wrong.
Just wondered if any of you guys have any experience with this or know what it is / how to prevent?
I've attached pictures (hopefully).

Thanks for the information. There was some tallish plants in the pond which formed a bit of a canopy, might have been hiding under there potentially. It's just crazy how much of it there appears to have been settled at the bottom of the pond.
