Autumn and winter feeding
Been pondering. As I have two diamonds in my koi pond (first year and I'm new to this) and I believe I have to feed all through the year. How do you stop the koi eating the sturgeon high protein food when they should be only eating wheat germ?
Thanks

I have two serlets that need winter feeding too. I feed them twice a week when it's cold and do so in the dark to try and minimise the chances of my koi eating the sinking food too. I think my koi were not interested in eating because they were too cold and sat quite still on the bottom. I'm un heated and the water gets quite cold.

To be honest I didn't feed wheat germ only last winter. I fed orchard fisheries premium until end of October, gradually decreasing the number of feeds each day. I the. Fasted them from November to the end of February this year and slowly started on the OF pellets in March when the water started to warm.
When I fed the sterlet during the winter the koi didn't look at the food. I did have a blanket weed issue during December to February so the koi grazed on this if they were hungry.
However, as I learn more about koi keeping I will switch to wheat germ earlier this winter and reduce their feeds using this. I am thinking about Kusuri because I am feeding their colour mix at the moment and can't believe the reduction in waste compared to OF premium.
